What really annoys me right now...

... are threads which have a thread title that doesn't really explain what the thread is about, requiring you to click on the thread to read the OP - which may or may not be helpful - and find out for yourselves, thus adding to my online internet monthly allowance in a way I didn't really need to.

And speaking of the internet, something else that annoys me is this intermittent Net connection due to the heavy weather we've been having. :klingon:

.o0O0o.

But anyway, this got me thinking. It's been a funny time here in general. A certain mood seems to be prevailing at the minute. Christmas is coming, the bills are getting fat, need more pills and pennies for a brand new hat. Angst is all around, as the old song never went. [Love, actually - everyone]

There seems to be a general need to get something off our chests and let it all hang out in the open, as it were. A need to vent our frustrations. Be they real life issues, imagined problems, the big things or the little stuff. Relationships. Work. Sex. Cars. Love. Hatred. Time. Money. Us and them. Brain damage. The great gig in the [that's enough - someone] (Sorry.)

At least that's how I see things.

So. As the thread title suggests: what really annoys YOU right now? ;)

(and yes, I thought I'd get the inevitable

joke out of the way right now. ;))

Right now... the situation I'm in with work and church and my workshop and the fact that I'm shipping out for military service in May.

Of them, The two I am not budging on are my workshop and military. At this point the job is optional and I'm on the verge of telling them that.

Church, I was handed the opportunity to get a business-unit off the ground one that dovetails with the Workshop for maximum profit.

Job... I really REALLY don't want to be here. This job while a decent paycheck is NOT what I want to do with my life in fact THIS IS WHY I WENT TO SCHOOL so I wouldn't have to sit in an office and kiss corporate and customer ass all day. If I wanted that I'd go work at Walmart.

I just mouseover the thread title on the index page and that's usually enough to give the game away. ;)

The only thing that annoys me at the moment is that I still have another 18 months or so of working for someone else. I know it's sensible to stay the course, that it's not long left really, and to use the time to build up the piggy bank a bit more, and complete various other tasks in the meantime to smooth the transition to self-employment... but it gets increasingly tiresome working like this instead of getting out and doing what I want. Still, a bit more short-term sacrifice will be worth it in the longer term. Just gotta keep plugging away! :)

That just adds to the browser loading time for me, which kind of defeats the point of things even more. :(

I'm actually in the same boat, only I'm still looking for the emergency lifeboat, and time is shorter.

People who slow down shifting from 1st to 2nd really annoy me. Other than that, I feel great.

Yeah, I guess I'm lucky since I have several other sidelines/business that are easily scalable once I quit the day job, esp. once I complete this last bit of time. Good luck with your search; the options are out there! :)

I have to ask, how is this possible? Surely you won't be upshifting unless you're also accelerating?

I think I know what I want to do... the big problem is getting there. But I'm working on it. :bolian:

Hmmm...I am not one to get annoyed easily, but I have been feeling that general mood you described, Zion, as well. I am very patient and have a good sense of humor -- a combination that means very little really annoys me. I get annoyed with myself a lot though. I am very annoyed with my own bad habits and continual failure in changing them.

Also, the MTA.

I don't know exactly why they do it, I have just observed it. I usually use the opportunity to get round them, as I ride.

They seem to keep the clutch down while they clumsily shift gear, causing the car to coast in neutral briefly and slow sharply immediately after they move off, when you are already doing 30 you don't notice it, but in first it is really pronounced. That's my theory anyway.

Also, the MTA.

How?

I do remember they annoyed me once. I was taking pictures on a platform and they tried to tell me I couldn't. Which they are not allowed to do, since it is perfectly legal to take pics anywhere in the system for any reason whatsoever (it's just that you can't have extra equipment like a tripod or lighting gear).

Of course, one would be quite correct in pointing out that only a doofus tourist would want to take pictures on a subway platform, but hey, that is exactly what I am. :p

Oh, and there's the time it took me almost two hours to get from Citi Field to Spumoni Gardens because the stupid fucking idiot train kept stopping every 10 seconds (for several minutes at a time). It would seem that I transferred to the N way too early that day.

I'm annoyed by the fact that I want to put together a presentation in a binder in a certain way, and I can't. I want to use both page protectors and tabs. Most tabs will just get covered by the page protectors, and if I use any type that sticks out beyond them, it's too big for the binder and would stick out beyond the binder. Thus looking not-neat, and probably getting messed up as I carry it around.

I know, I'm crazy. But I didn't want to punch holes in these particular papers, and I need the tabs, so I'm forced to choose. Any I'm annoyed. I even found tabs that do stick out beyond the page protectors, but they didn't sell any binders that fit them. Why stock a product that doesn't work with anything else? :(

I'm such a nerd.

You're being sarcastic, right?

In case you're not:

-They've raised the price of a ride from $1.50 to $2.25 in seven years. The cost of a weekly unlimited pass has gone from $17 to $25. That adds up.

-When they're not raising fares they're cutting service, or, at the very least, disrupting it. They recently made cuts to the Access-A-Ride service (on top of raising prices), kicking those who need the transport most in the balls.

-They've cut jobs, including removing station attendants -- who often serve as a young woman's safety net when she's taking the train late at night.

I'm grateful that the city has a comprehensive public transports system, and I don't mind relying on one in theory, but when the system is as badly managed and corrupt as the MTA , I do get annoyed.

No... :alienblush:

I was just assuming that you were thinking of a specific incident that involved you. I am aware of those things you mentioned though. I was not intending to be insulting or sarcastic. (There are many people to whom I gladly talk that way, but not you. :D )

Unfortunately, the per-ride fare increase matches inflation over the same period (50% since 1995). The weekly pass is actually cheaper in absolute terms. I wonder how much of their trouble is caused by declines in non-fare funding.

(I don't mean to seem dismissive. The MTA may also be horrible mismanaged.)

My continued unemployment, my social anxiety which prevents me from doing all I can to get a job, the fact that I don't feel like a man, and that nagging feeling that I've just failed in life and it is too late to do anything about it.

Oh and every time Think makes one of his rambling posts.:scream:

I suppose it's just that there have been two major increases in a short amount of time, coupled with the cuts in service that make commuters feel we're getting a raw deal.

What annoys me is the incredibly slow passage of time. I have what I want most, but it exists only four months in the future. And there's not a lot to do until it gets here. I'm certainly trying to find things that will help me use this time wisely, but I haven't found a temporary job yet and I'm not sure I will. I try to cherish this last few months I have living with my family, but they are driving me batty and every time I try and enjoy being with them they remind me why being an entire ocean away from them is not at all an unpleasant prospect.

Finally, I can't call my girlfriend because she is apparently so swamped with work that she's turned off her cellphone. In a few months this would be nothing more than a minor annoyance, but when you love someone and they live on a different continent, feeling like you have no way of contacting them is really quite unpleasant. Not that I blame her for being busy in a peak season while holding two jobs at once. Once again, I blame the space-time continuum.

Oh, and it also annoys me that the last time I was able to talk to her (Friday), we ended up having to cut short a conversation I was enjoying and want to finish! DAMNIT I had more to say and now I can't. Argh!

In a nutshell, I wish it were March now and it isn't. Maybe that's a good thing.

No, no it isn't.

^^ What annoys me is the incredibly fast passage of time. :rommie:

Must be an age thing....

^ You could always try to live as boring a life as possible, to extend how long you feel you've lived.
