Something That Annoys Me

So I was watching Trials and Tribbleations this morning and there were two things that struck out at me as being odd that really kinda surprised me that they weren't bigger story problems.

1.) Before the teaser - right when the Defiant was thrown back in time - they lose their cloak when Darvin beams off the ship. How was it that the Enterprise or K-7 didn't see the Defiant? Defiant did appear to be pretty close to the 1701 when it decloaked from what we saw on the viewscreen.

2.) Wouldn't the explosion near K-7 have put someone on alert? The Federation and Klingons were still enemies back then so wouldn't the explosion of sent up some sort of red flag?

Just two random things that annoyed me. I still love the episode (it's in my top five).

Well here is a reply, stupid and unfounded though it is.

For the decloaking, the viewscreen could have been zoomed in, still not much of an excuse.

For the explosion, relatively quick and prmitive, untargeted sensors?

Oh well, I am sure others will have better explainations.

The viewscreen can be misleading in telling you how close something is. I guess the best gauge would be they would need to be within 40,000km of K-7 for Darvin to beam to the station.

Or maybe some sort of magic technobabble reason like the Defiant was not completely in-sync with the year so was invisible to sensors. Or both the Enterprise and Klingon ship might have been pumping of sensor jamming stuff to prevent the other from getting a good reading on each other's ship.

2.) Wouldn't the explosion near K-7 have put someone on alert? The Federation and Klingons were still enemies back then so wouldn't the explosion of sent up some sort of red flag?

The explosion is harder to explain. Maybe they did detect it but given it was only a small explosion that didn't come near either ship or really threaten the station no one gave a crap.

Can't remember the sequence of events but did the bomb explode after past-Darvin was in the same room with Kirk? It if did he would have wanted it to be a pretty small device so to minimise the risk of killing his past-self. Couple that with a sensor jamming it might not have been noticed. The Defiant might have also pumped out interference to hid the explosion. If they had been sensible they would not have rematerialised the Tribble as a one whole entity but dispursed its atoms across the area.

The Defiant wasn't detected through luck. The Enterprise's sensors operated on a variable system which is shown in the episode. The Defiant presumably appeared during the few seconds that the Enterprise sensors was not facing their direction.

As for the explosion, that is harder to explain, although the same explanation might also work. The explosion wasn't detected because the sensors weren't facing the right direction.

It might have been just treated as a sensor-ghost. I don't think this issue is a big deal.
