Being back in school for my second BA degree, I don't have an office. But since I'm headed for a career teaching High School, I'm hoping for a nice seperate office sepearate from my classroom complete with a fish tank, a couple of terrariums, a recliner and a mini fridge, a nice storage for all the shit I'd acculumate over the years, and a good view from the classroom. I got those ideas from some of my old teachers

Wow! I teach at a university and I don't even have an office like that. I share an office with another teacher (thankfully, we're friends and get along well.) Last year, as a TA, I shared an office with at least six other people. It was very small and had no windows.

Dream big, though, Finn! I hope you get your dream office one day... can I come share it with you?

I know The thing is my old line of work was so demeaning, humilating and degrading (especially on some days) that I'd happy if I was just given one of those student desks in a janitor's closet with a nice laptop and a tiny shelf.

And by view, I meant a tree visible, not the Sierra Nevada Mountains or the sun setting over a sandy beach.

My current job is "Collector of Unemployment Insurance Funds, " so this is the closest I have to an office right now.

At my most recent job, cameras weren't permitted in the building because, being a collection company, there was a lot of personal information laying around.

Edited to add: Just took this poor quality picture with my phone. The yellow bottle is for spraying a naughty kitty. See the paw reaching up on the front of the desk right as I click the shutter? That would be the naughty kitty!

I guess this could be called my "workplace". I haven't got a proper job (I'm very busy with school) but I do spend a lot of time composing my music and doing graphic work here.

^my old field was truly humilating for me. Besides several people I know who went into teaching seem to start off as a sub teacher or a teacher assistant job. So It appears to the norm so I kinda expect that kind of thing at first.

Problem was, I had years of experience in other fields, including adult education, and I was used to having decent workspaces of my own.

Just curious... what was this "truly humiliating" field?

I like it because I can relate too... epic nerf gun wars. It just wouldn't be a week at the office unless we had at least one day where we were running up and down the halls screaming and ducking for cover.


And I really need to join the fun but I keep forgetting my camera. When I do remember, you kids will see my nerf gun stowed conveniently beside the monitor. You never know when an attack will come. You will also have proof as to why I am called "toy guy" at the office.

I also have a design business but my workspace there is boring. I have the computer set up on my dining room table. Other than the new place-mats I bought there is nothing else to look at.

^ Oh my gosh! I have one of those too! He is hanging onto the top right corner of my monitor.

I also have Wall-E, McCoy,Smurf and the TOS Enterprise hanging around as well. To the left we have the nerf gun and Marvin the Martian coffee mug. And last but not least, my McCoy wallpaper on the computer.

And back over in the corner we have...

More Smurfs, Legos, Potato Heads and some Trek action figures. That silver pig is a bank that I use for Casual Friday. The employees give me a dollar, which we donate to charity, and they can wear jeans to work. But either way I think the pig is soooo cute!

I share this tiny little office with three other people but my "area" is the playzone. I am awesome!
