Dead Space - WOW

I normally hesitate to play a game with a EA sticker on it because it seems to be bad luck for quality but after hearing people on here telling me to give it a try I must admit Dead Space is amazing...

The ship setting is perfect because its big but at the same time due to corridiors it feels like you pinned into a small space and every air vent or hole in the hull could have something waiting to rip you limb from limb. Soundwise its creepy as hell from LOST esq whispering to sudden explosions or noise of the ship falling to bits/monsters running around in air vents etc. Gameplay is great and any doubts I had over the dismember system is gone though I felt not all the guns later in the game were very good and I stuck with 3 for my first play through (Plasma, Flame, Pulse) though am loving the Line Gun a bit more in 2nd playthrough.

I hate boss battles in games because so many times a Game dev will just have this self wank to create something so stupid so over the top I can't take it seriously but Dead Space spreads out such instances and they walk a fine line but rarely cross. I love the regen hunter a serious bad ass enemy that you hate knowing is chasing you.

The only thing I didn't like in the game was the ADS cannon stuff, which should of been set in 1st person not 3rd and sometimes the plot got a little thin with fixing this and that etc but overall it was a fantastic game. I hope any sequel might follow an ALIEN route and go from ship to a base on a deserted planet (ALIENS). Also this game feels like it would suit a free reign CO-OP Mode (system link/online) so 2 of you could team up or go seperate ways.

probably 8.5 score, which is good for me though part of me do think it could enter my elite 9 out of 10 club but will probably fall just short. Cheers again to those who told me about it a few months ago :techman: can't wait for DEAD SPACE 2 in late 2010.

The asteroid shooter ruined the whole game. Utterly stupid and pointless in an otherwise excellent game. I know several people who took it back because of that single bit of folly.

This is one of those games that I bought when I saw it on sale and has been sitting on my bookshelf pretty much since. I played it for probably an hour... maybe two. I need to get back to it, definitely had some potential. Apparently the Wii rail shooter version is pretty entertaining too, but I wouldn't want to check that out until I finish the original!

Dead Space was an unexpected hit for me. The only survival horror games I've played before were all Resident Evil games, and with RE5 being such a dissapointment, Dead Space filled that void nicely.

Agreed on the ADS Cannon bit. Took me like a dozen attempts to even get a threshold pass on that. Doubt I'll ever manage to get the trophy.

Yep. It annoyed the heck out of me when I played it on the xbox 360, but I bought it on PC and enjoyed the second playthrough. I disagree that it needs a sequel, but would be willing to give it the benefit of the doubt if they went the ALIENS route as you suggested.

This is an awesome game I'm glad you enjoyed it. Let's hope we get a true sequel besides the wii spinoff.

WOO! I just found this game on clearance at Target for $13.98! DEAL! This is the 360 Platinum Hits version does that mean there's extra contents or fixed bugs or anything?

A friend loaned this game to me and it was great. It took me forever to play because I got scared so many times I had to stop playing (I played it mostly at night after work) and calm down.

I hope they make a Dead Space II.

I've heard its great, but when I tried the demo I couldn't get over the monsters looking like roast chickens... Couldn't take it seriously, and since it isn't meant to be funny that was a no-no.

Lonemagpie, I gotta agree some of the monsters do look like chickens, but there are other monsters in it that dont.

I loved the game, but I gotta admit after awhile all the "gotcha moments" werent too scary because it was expected. At first I was jumping every five seconds and was scared to move down a hall way, but after playing through numerous levels, I got used to being scared and so when something did jump out at me it was like, "Boring! What is next?"

I am playing FEAR 2 right now and it does the scare tactics great. It isnt in your face all the time so when it does happen I actually jump and I am far into the game.

I bet it can't beat the original F.E.A.R :techman:

It smoked F.E.A.R

Am afraid critics and many other fans disagree :p My problem with F.E.A.R 2 was that those demon things were over used and were only original and scary when they appeared at the end of number 1...And we won't even talk about that sex scene ending

F.E.A.R (2005) my number 1 game of all time baby :techman:

I never got he whole F.E.A.R Awesomeness as it felt like it was a Half Life rip off to me.
It never "scared" me or even remotely creeped me out.

I enjoy both Fear and Dead Space. Fear scared me more though, and more consistently throughout the game... After the first 3 or 4 horrifying chapters of Dead Space I felt like I knew all the games tricks, and at that point just enjoyed the gameplay...Although those fucked up hyper-marines you fight in one of the later chapters freaked me out.

Fear was the scarier game for me, but Dead Space was the better overall game.
