Personally, I think the reason Karl Urban got McCoy so dead on was because he spent every night with a Ouija board and enough Peyote to stun a horse.

Star Trek is still rotting in there. It's JJ Abrams' Star Trek that isn't.
I don't know about that, this new film is generating interest in old Trek too among the new people who like the film and are interested in Star Trek, I think more people will join with each new film, enlarging the fan base in a healthy way.
And that's a word which I've learned to dislike quite a bit. startrekrcks, it's not a friendly word in any way, and I'd prefer not to see it used here.
I'll go one further and suggest to you, startrekrcks, that it is not only unnecessary that you challenge everyone who posts a comment expressing an opinion which is critical of the movie, it's becoming a bit disruptive to see variations on "I think its a great movie why cant you accept it" all the time in many threads.
If someone posts an opinion with which you do not agree, then that's okay; they're allowed to do that, just as you are allowed to post your opinions. If you have a constructive comment to offer about what they've said, then it's okay for you to do that, too. But this constant barrage of "why dont you like it" (often when they've just finished explaining why) is not okay and it needs be cut back significantly; it would be better for you learn to say to yourself "All right, that's your opinion" and to let the comment pass, unanswered.
Give it a try, eh?
Perhaps Trek XI detractors would be better.

This is just the same thing as "why don't you like it", only with different words and not addressed to anyone directly. Obviously, not everyone thinks that it was "refreshing, cool and young", so asking such a question serves no useful purpose. Please consider more before posting things like this.

Best Trek movie since TWOK imo. But as to how it will "blend" in with other Trek - like oil and water. I guess if you try real hard and squint your eyes alot you could have a colloidal suspension, but never a homogeneous solution 
I'm not even half-serious.
Thing is, though, the original TV series - not the movies based on it, not the cartoons or the comics or the novels (many very good) or the follow-on series or fan films or what-have-you - is something separate from and above the Trek "franchise" for me. It's a thing of my childhood and adolescence; it was something that grew and was to be discovered as new every week, years before there were such a thing as "trekkies" and decades before people argued online about "canon" and about what constitutes "quality Star Trek" and such nonsense.
Abrams's movie brings back some of the flavor of that, the spirit and a little bit of the ghost of the old thing. I can happily connect the two without reference to any of the rest of the Franchise, and I enjoy that.

You know what would really propel this discussion forward? If we got into an argument about how TWoK was in no way the best ST film (I still think it's TVH), and how TMP sucked on every level.
