The 82nd Academy Awards & STAR TREK

I think most of us would place the Jack Nicholson BATMAN in our top 3. I have yet to meet the person who doesn't, but I suppose it can happen on these boards. There are so many different personality types around here.

Entertainment Weekly's newest issue has an early analysis of the Oscar race. It has three categories for Best Picture:

Pretty Much Sure Things:
The Hurt Locker
Invictus
The Lovely Bones
Precious
Up in the Air

Other Possibilities:
Avatar
Inglourious Basterds
Nine
A Serious Man
Up

Long Shots:

An Education
It's Complicated
A Single Man
Star Trek
Where the Wild Things Are

They also have J.J. brams as a Long Shot for Best Director.

I'm quite pleased that Nine is at least considered a possibility. That film is horribly underrated, imo.

The Quentin Tarantino film insulted my brain. I used to like his work. Not so much now. What a bloody waste of resources.

Why oh why is Michael Jackson suddenly everyone's hero? He used to be the biggest joke of the bloody planet, and just because he died, everyone thinks he was the greatest artist on Earth. That's annoying.

I never liked his music, never got the hype, and sure as hell don't get it now. So what if he died, happens to the best of us.

My condolences to his family- that is if they aren't too busy making money with his death.

Not my hero. I loved his songs... Still do. But even if he wasn't a pedo (and I'll never be fully convinced that he wasn't), he was way too creepy...

Exactly! Everyone (well, most people) thought that, including myself. Whether you like his music or not, that's a matter of taste. It's just so irritating that he became this immaculate idol just because he died.

He isn't my hero, and I can count on one hand the number of his songs I even remotely like. I just find the idea that the movie they made to cash in on his death winning Best Picture to be humorous because I could actually see it happening.

Maybe Best Documentary Film (it has gotten pretty good reviews), but incredibly unlikely for Best Picture. I don't think any documentary has been nominated for Best Picture.

Oh. I hadn't thought about it that way. In that case, you are right. It would be truly humorous. :p

Personally, I really wish the academy would surprise us and include Star Trek in the ten. The movie did have considerable critical success.

Had there been ten slots that year, I'd be wondering if it wouldn't show up as a nominee.

I think it's widely assumed that both "The Dark Knight" and "Wall-E" would've made the category if there were 10 spots.
