How will Trek XI blend in with the rest of Trek

Well yeah, it's just another rationalisation we have to make up to compensate for the poor writing.

Not really. Kirk's hopping around when McCoy jabs him with another hypospray. It's an easy observation to make.

Instead Kirk is an idiot for hopping around.

But then, believing that PineKirk is an idiot is no stretch.

Meh. I'm sure this could go on for days, right down to the number of rivets in the hull. Suffice to say, I like the movie and I find it to be a lot of fun. You don't have to like it and you know that of course you're free to dislike everything about it.

This makes even me raise an eyebrow. For me the problem is the lame physical humor, not that the hypospray hurts when it's used.

Well, I have a problem with both things. Though the lame physical humour is upped later with the big hands and tongue thing. No one with an age in double figures should find that amusing.

I love the physical humor. There was tons of it in the original series, and it was nice to see it back again.

"He got his head caught in a mechanical... rice picker."

Tons of physical humour in the original series? Unless you've got the the wrong idea about Plato's Stepchildren, then I'd like some examples.

For me XI doesn't blend in at all. They took 43 years of Trek history and flushed it down the bog.

At least it was a hypospray that didn't hurt. They're gone now it seems.

I don't think they ever hurt, did they?

J.
Not so far as I recall, not even on Enterprise. Which means we're to believe that technology took a step backwards. All for the sake of a cheap nearly-laugh when McCoy was giving Kirk the hyposprays.

Maybe there was something in that Mud Flea injection that actually hurt. Like.. a flea bite.

Well in Episode IV the stormtrooper hit his head.. oh wait.

Incorrect. You're actually investing a lot of time into posting and trying desperately to slam it, and because it hasn't quite worked out for you then you keep trying harder. So the notion that you haven't "invested in it at all" is actually quite incorrect.
You're invested in me.

Firstly, a few quotes:

"Is there anyone on this ship, who even remotely, looks like Satan?" -- Kirk
"I am not aware of anyone who fits that description, Captain" -- Spock
"No, Mr. Spock, I didn't think you would be" -- Kirk (The Apple)

"Does everyone know about this grain but me?" -- Kirk
"Not everyone, Kepten, it's a Russian inwention." -- Checkov (The Trouble With Tribbles)

"Now this is a drink for a man." -- Scott
"Scotch?" -- Checkov
"Aye." -- Scott
"It vas inwented by a little old lady in Lenningrad." -- Checkov (The Trouble With Tribbles)

"Just before they went into warp, I beamed the whole kit and kaboodle into their engine room, where they'll be no tribble at all." (The Trouble With Tribbles)

There's more, but these are some examples.

yes you either loathe or love the movie but what is the point of hating something that was a big hit.

That's a very pragmatic way to put it. I agree completely. :techman:

huh.. I don't care if something was a hit.. what do you mean by "what's the point of hating something that was a big hit." What does it being a big hit have to do with someone hating it? Are we supposed to like things just a little bit more because they are big hits? Or do you mean our hatred is futile if we mean to gather a mob of like minded haters and get some groundswell going to destroy our hated thing..

Hang on a sec.... we're talking about a movie here. I didn't say you can't hate something, but it's pragmatic to say it doesn't make any difference, because they made it and people liked it (well in general at least), so any new ST produced will follow a similar recipe. Hating it is a waste of energy, then, because it won't change a thing.

OH a waste of energy.. yeah I get that.

J. Allen, THANK you for that great post, very fun!! Thanks for taking the time to put it together.

You're welcome! I know my TOS. It was my first love, and I learned it inside out, upside down and all around.
I have to tell you, I always looked forward to a Harry Mudd episode. A shame there weren't many more. Roger Carmel was truly a talented man.

When I clicked on the youtube of Harry Mudd and heard Stella's voice I burst out laughing, LOLOL.. though it's been a while since I've seen that one.

Oh yes, and the irony of Harry's predicament is just delicious. The look he gives Kirk right before they beam out is priceless.

I am a huge fan of Trek and although I was looking forward to the new movie a little part of me was worried about what was going to happen. I'd read the spoilers about what happened to Vulcan and again wondered how I'd feel about it.

I LOVED the movie and the alternate timeline story as it just opens up Trek to whole new possibilities. The franchise was tired and as pointed out before no-one wanted to pick it up either movie wise or for TV. OK so some die hards are unhappy but hey, you still have the DVDs of everything.

This re-imagining of Trek opens it up to a whole new audience and generation of fans. My 6 year old loves the movie and never was interested in the old ones (Despite me trying time after time to get him interested....).

Does it blend in? probably not, but surely that's the whole point?

Jeez, you make it sound like I'm trying to insult you for hating something. I'm not. I just like the "let's not get worked up about something that's basically irrelevant and that we can't change anyway" thought. It's not world peace, politics, the environment or anything. It's entertainment.

If you felt like I was dismissing your opinion, I apologise.

And it that wasn't sarcasm, ignore what I said.

Oh you completely misunderstand me. I was mainly addressing the person you were replying to, startrekrcks who said:

I didn't get what was meant by the question, what was the point of hating the movie. Maybe I've been reading hate posts too long, haha.. but I didn't see why it being a big hit had anything to do with the not hating it (still don't I guess). So when you said it was a waste of energy I thought I saw what startrekrcks was getting at..

And for the record I do not hate it, I am practically in love with it.

Sorry if that was unclear.
