It's not Star Trek! The Prometheus...

Really?

I think Destiny from the rear looks a whole lot more like the Millennium Falcon from the rear...

The design history of Prometheus actually parallels that of the carrier Enterprise. Enterprise is the prototype nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, built as much to see if it could be done as any other reason. After Enterprise was launched, the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier was redesigned (in no small part due to lessons learned from Enterprise) into Nimitz. All US Navy aircraft carriers built since then have been based on the design of Nimitz...

Great looking modeling of fug-ugly ship. You mention a cheap alternative a to a deadalus class promethues being a one off ship would be more expensive as the ship was mostly hand built, were as the deadalus's since so many of tham have been built we had tooling and jigs made for mass production. But its funny you mention Destiny if you squint really really hard there is a very passing resembalance that Prometheus has with Destiny from the rear
Well, by cheaper, I meant mainly because it's smaller, and simpler. It doesn't make sense that the whole fleet would be carriers. :)

I see what you mean. Since I did change things up on this some, we can just go with the idea that this particular ship isn't in the same as Prometheus, but is just very similar, but more refined. Maybe this one is the first of it's class.

I think that gives me even more of a reason to name this thing Enterprise. :)

Oh God please No!
Stick with Roman or Greek gods, or maybe Aztec or Mayan gods, or maybe even native American ones would be cool.
Oops. :)

I finished it, and for now, it is the Enterprise... just to be difficult.

One thing to remember is (according to tradition) you can't name it Enterprise as long as another Enterprise is currently in military service. USS Gerald R Ford (CVN-78) should be commissioned in 2015 and is scheduled to replace Enterprise. The name should be available then...

Based on that, the names of any non-nuclear aircraft carriers built since 1955 should be available...

Including Constellation...

Yep, that's one of the reason's I named it Enterprise, too. I know there is some disappointment that when the decommission Enterprise, they won't be replacing it with another one any time soon... So I thought why not? :)

A question though... these ships are run by the air force, right? There was a thread somewhere where people were saying that these ships couldn't be called "U.S.S." anything, because they weren't NAVY ships. Anybody know anything about that?

Actually a lot of people are unaware that the US Air Force has a small fleet of its own boats. They do not use "USS" but have USAF on them.

Here is a picture.

Maybe except for the Native American gods, wouldn't naming these ships after Roman and Greek gods be somewhat dissonant, considering the Stargate program fought against evil alien overlords who styled themselves as said gods?

Perhaps naming them after the Norse Gods? :p They did name some of their ships after Tau'ri, so we could always return the favour ;)

EDIT: Nearly forgot, excellent image! :techman: Outstanding work as always :)
