It's not Star Trek! The Prometheus...

Great work! Love the greebles... that shading effect...is that something that blender does, or are you texturing it to look like that ? (like doing a dark wash with paint thinner, so the paint sticks into the seams...if it were a "real" plastic model.)
Very nice, organic look.
Nice to see something from a different "universe"...:)
Thanks. :) That effect is cause by a setting in Blender called Ambient Occlusion. I think it called Global Illumination or something like that in some other 3d apps. Basically, it tries to simulate how light can be everywhere in the environment, so that shadows aren't totally black.

I have to say in this image already, I'm getting the impression of size and bulk for the ship I felt when I first saw the Prometheus on screen for the first time. Great feel you're giving it here :techman:

This ship is so beneath you skills Mad the design had to be fugugly sci fi ship to make it into space. Absolutely no grace it looks like Peter stacked some Legos together and handed to CGI guys to model it for the show. Why not try the Destiny? please....

Well that's a huge slap in the face to Legos. Have you seen some of the designs out there these days?

Scroll all the way down.

Okay Duplo... jeeezzz...

graceful, sweeping lines on a spacecraft look good, but they're not really necessary, and are mostly a waste of resources and space. maybe the 23rd century can afford such luxuries.

God I miss that Ship.

WHY DID THEY HAVE TO BLOW IT UP!? :(

P.S. great job.

i think it was to try to stop SG1 becoming a ship based sci-fi and allow for sleeker designs later on.

like most SG1 ships it definitely has a lot of charm, the asgard ships in particular would allow for a lot of fan based variations etc.

Alright... I didn't give up on this guy, yet. :)

Got the all the engines done. Are those blocky things to either side the Hyperdrive Engines, or what? That's what I built them to be, anyway. :) I took some liberties with the shapes of these, since it's not supposed to be a copy, but a later more refined version.

Off to build rail-guns, and asgard beam weapons. :) Does anyone know what an asgard beam weapon looks like, anyway?

an asgard beam weapon looks like a fiddly little greeble which is completely anonymous and looks like nothing at all until a lance of oh god so bright and its burning light shoots out of it. pretty sure.

They were hyperdrive engines on the original model. They build a higher-res model (which was only ever used in the episode they blew it up, go figure) which apparently scaled up the ship and made the outrigger pods the 302 hangars.

I think it looks pretty much like a TOS phaser bank...
Invisible, then? :)

Well, I decided to texture it up, while I was thinking about the weapons.

I think it's turning out pretty good. Now, I'm really going to build some weapons...

***WAY*** invisible, since I don't believe Prometheus ever had Asgard beam weapons. I think it was destroyed before Earth received them and the first arrivals were installed on Daedalus...

Yeah, I know... I was going on the idea that this one was a different ship, built later. A smaller, cheaper alternative to Daedalus.

If you are in for an obsession, you might want to try the Destiny from SGU ;)

I've been thinking about it. I'm still waiting to see if I'm going to start enjoying the show, first. :) That's for a different thread, though...

At some point SGU should get past the Deadly Supply Problem Of The Week and start revealing bits and pieces of what the hell the ship is doing out there in the first place. (I really SEVERELY doubt the writers have given it much thought yet...)

Maybe THEN Stargate Voyager will start getting good...

Great looking modeling of fug-ugly ship. You mention a cheap alternative a to a deadalus class promethues being a one off ship would be more expensive as the ship was mostly hand built, were as the deadalus's since so many of tham have been built we had tooling and jigs made for mass production. But its funny you mention Destiny if you squint really really hard there is a very passing resembalance that Prometheus has with Destiny from the rear
