WoW - Musings & Discussion

We should start up a TBBS guild on some server to have fun with alts and play with anyone here who is a first timer. I nominate Runetotem because that's where all my gold is. :p

Over the last year I've gotten more and more into the lore. There are a lot of different ways to enjoy WoW though it often seems to be all about phat lewtz. There are a lot of different ways to play it too.

I may be getting too old for the game, as I'm getting tired with it, and the kids annoy the heck out of me, what with the constant shouts of "noob!", "F*ck you c*cksucker noob", and so on.
J.

I play far too much and I just don't see "constant shouting" of any such thing. The ignore list exists for a reason, no one forces you to be in the general or trade channels, and you can join a friendly, adult-based guild that doesn't tolerate bullshit like that if you look for one.

You really don't have to be offended or sensitive about it. I'm just telling you what I see.

Well I gotta say.. I spent my first year+ on WoW playing on a high pop server on the Alliance side. The near endless shouting and insults and F u's both in trade, whispered to me every time I wouldn't run some stranger through something or give them gold.. well I got used to it but I didn't like it. It was like a never ending background noise to the game.

Then I started playing Horde exclusively, on a lower population server. For about a year. And in a whole year NO ONE has begged gold or abused me for not running them. Trade chat is still full of it but every personal interaction I've had has been bizarrely adult.

So I had to conclude that the cliche about Alliance attracting kiddies had some basis in fact.

Hopefully with the advent of a dedicated LFG channel in 3.3, us grown-ups can once again tune in to the Trade channel without being bombarded by the steady stream of profanity and noob abuse. :)

On the lighter side of things, I finally finished that tedious rep grind to exalted with Netherwing, and have 6 shiny new Netherdrakes in my back pocket to prove it. :) Though that did take a 1000g bite out of my alt's epic flyer training fund...

Maybe I should just find a low population server and join up as Horde, then, because ignoring everyone who does this just isn't practical. To me, the ignore function is for a handful of idiots. When you start seeing groups of people talk like this (and they do tend to congregate), ignore just becomes a pointless option.

Am having issues with the game now...

The amount of sheer walking puts me into a coma, I don't play games to just walk. I can't find many quests and any that I do are impossible for me on level 7 I can't defeat the enemies. Also am having serious lag issues when I enter for example Stormwind City and its puts me off the game...

I am supposed to be playing on a big MMO server but this feels like a clan server with the appauling streaming when you get near more than a dozen people. Not my PC because it can play any game on market and has parts that weren't even invented when WOW came out originally and my internet speed is 10mb.

Also I am a Human Warrior and is it me or do they suck ??? everyone I see are something else and am wondering if theres a good reason for that.

You will be walking everywhere until you reach level 30 and can get a mount. Try to do a lot of quests that are in the same general area, that will save time.

Warriors are okay. They're used as tanks when going into battle during a raid. So are Paladins and Death Knights. Paladins have the best of both worlds, as they can heal themselves and act as a tank. This also results in very long PVP matches between two Holy Paladins.

The hero classes are where most new players go, which means Paladins, and when they reach lvl 55 and can make them, Death Knights. Death Knights are a lot of fun. As a Warrior, you have some good tools and can win most PVE (player vs. environment) situations if you keep working at it. Eventually, you get "Titan Grip" and can dual wield two 2-handed weapons, which is awesome.

Walking a lot... yeah it's called "World" of Warcraft. Personally, I always liked the hugeness of the game. Things do get easier at level 20 when you get your first mount. So start saving your gold :)

If you are finding it difficult to kill stuff, maybe you have wandered too far from your starting area. Stay in Elwynn Forest until you are level 10 or so. Starting a fresh toon for the very first time without an already-existing higher level toon to fund you is difficult. But stick with it.

I personally never particularly enjoyed playing a Warrior. I went with Rogue. Your mileage may vary. On the other hand, Warriors are usually in very high demand for dungeons, whereas few people see the wisdom in grouping with a Rogue...

As far as the lag goes, maybe it's just a laggy day. Some days it's terrible, but usually it's fine. Except in Dalaran.

Wait, you can get a mount at level 20 now?
Oh, and I hate Rogues. ... (except when I am one  )

Yeah, at launch you couldn't get a mount until 40, then later, 30. Now, 20. One of my biggest beefs with WoW, the constant dumbing down and easy mode of the game.

Pretty much makes the Drood cheetah pointless. It's slower than a lvl 20 horsie, and you don't even get it until lvl 30. :vulcan:

Yeah, it is much easier than it was in the beginning. I had the most fun between Wow Classic and TBC. With WOTLK, I just feel the game lost it's edge, and now with Cataclysm on the horizon, well they're just opening up the floodgates.

I have absolutely no idea why you'd think I was offended or sensitive to what you said. I think too much time in TNZ is affecting your perception, J. ;)

But if I did I certainly didn't mean to if I did.

A Trek BBS guild would be fun.

Ah, okay then.
A TrekBBS guild would be fun, I agree. Of course we'd be doubly stigmatized.

Maybe that has something to do with it, I don't know. I'm Horde, but I've got a couple of RL friends who play alliance and they're not dicks and I've met plenty of Horde teenage arseholes. I try not to ascribe "us vs. them" stereotypes because they're usually wrong. Alliance or Horde are 90% the same demographics I'm sure. Maybe there's something to younger kids choosing the shiny, "friendly" Alliance but it's not the little ones that are the issue.

Also I am a Human Warrior and is it me or do they suck ??? everyone I see are something else and am wondering if theres a good reason for that.

A warrior is one of the most annoying classes to level to 80. Level in the arms tree because you'll spend your life eating food as fury and it takes forever to kill anything as prot. It's not bad for PvP either if you seek to gain experience in battlegrounds. You're plate, before level 60 tanking talents won't matter much for your ultimate survivability. These days the chances of you doing much same-level instancing is pretty low, just get to 80 as fast as you can and if you want to tank, do it then.

That said, level him to 30 or so and if you don't like him try something else. That's why there are multiple classes.

Warriors can be tough to level at times. They lack a lot of the survival (unless you're planning on tanking) and escape abilities that other classes get. They are also a lot more gear dependent than other classes. A warrior wearing best in slot is pretty powerful, but they lag behind at lower gear levels. On the plus side, you'll see more notable differences as you're leveling and gearing up.

Personally, I find them a blast to play, even if I can feel the carpal tunnel setting in when I'm tanking on them.

There's some drama surrounding tank balance right now, but they're still in pretty high demand for tanking at higher levels. Well, for heroics, anyway. Raid tank spots are pretty competitive, but I do see more guilds asking for dps warriors than ret pallies, at least.

As far as travel goes, it's been pretty nerfed. You can get your first mount at level 20 for pretty cheap. It used to be a lot worse when you didn't get your mount until level 40. The zones start getting bigger before then. I remember being excited way back when after I was able to blink every CD to save travel time on my mage.

EDIT - Definitely follow FordSVT's suggestion on trying different classes. If you're not having fun after level 30ish, try something else.
