Watch TNG's episode Sarek. It's a decent episode. But did you know that Picard just happens to mention that he attended Spock's wedding? I mean, here is a major event occurring in the life of a MAJOR Star Trek character and that's all the development it gets. We never hear about this wife ever again, or who she is, even in the Unification episodes. It's just kind of weird to me.

This always seems to happen in the season finales too, albeit on a larger scale. Like Trip dies. Really? Well, that kind of puts a damper on future Trip/T'Pol fanfic.

And then there's the Seven/Chakotay relationship. It's revealed in, what, about two episodes? Right before the end? They just spring it on us!

I'm just saying that if they're going to make major alterations to these characters' lives, they should have a decent reason for it, and develop it well, instead of just doing it on a whim.

In any case, whether Spock got married, or whether Spock has one more brother, it should be a huge thing, but they just throw it in there. And yes, I agree it is annoying.

He was, but Sybok, err, died. Picard was clearly reference Spock's marriage to Saavik.

ETA: Personally I don't mind little things that are slipped in, like Picard mentioning he was at Sarek's son's wedding, or Dax making an off-the-cuff remark about McCoy having "the hands of a surgeon" - it gives little things that help connect the universe and also can be fun little stories for later.

Something like the McCoy comment, I don't mind at all. That's a fun thing. But it's also not a major thing. It doesn't equate to Spock getting married.

Yes, maybe it was some new brother of Spock's but...as DevilEyes said...that's a major thing in and of itself.

And as I've mentioned before...Saavik? That's gross. It's as gross as the suggestion that he had something going on with Valeris. And...as I've also mentioned before...it's boring.

I don't really see this specific thing being that bad. Why shouldn't Sarek have another child? You'd think he'd be shooting for a daughter by this point, but still, if that's how the ovum crumbles, no big deal. He was a man in his prime in Journey to Babel.

Likewise, there's no need to assume Spock would really be very concerned about this. He didn't even particularly like the brother we know he had who was in his own age group, or, for that matter, the father who sired him, so why bother trying to be friends with someone thirty to seventy years younger?

Anyway, if Sarek wants to have a dozen kids, or, heck, if Perrin wanted a dozen kids, I see nothing in principle stopping them. With the unlimited resources of the Federation, it's a valid lifestyle choice.

And it's not like there aren't plenty of straight women who like Seven.

So if Sarek has another son, what's the problem with establishing that onscreen... say, by a line or two? Instead of throwing that vague line in there - and what was the point of that, unless it was to get the fans talking about it and speculating if Spock got married?

(You also have to wonder why Sarek/mind-melded Picard doesn't mention any other sons beside Spock in "Sarek" when he's talking about his feelings for his wives and son... guess he just doesn't care that much about the other sons...)

Ehh, that's a pretty jaundiced view to take of it. What was "gross" about it? Or the Valeris thing, for that matter?

Of course, I'm in that minority that liked the Robin Curtis Saavik. Anyway, why assume it didn't last, perhaps Spock's wife, Saavik or otherwise, died at some point in the intervening years.

What was gross about Spock/Saavik doing it in TSFS? I dunno, how about that he was physically a teenager with a mind of a new born baby? Plus I happen to find the entire 'having to screw someone only as a service in order to help them' thing icky in itself, but maybe that's just me... Kind of makes the whole thing like a unique case of noble paedophilia for a good cause, huh? (And the idea from the novelization that she was involved with David at the time ratchets up the ick factor even more.)
