The Office: 6X08 Koi Pond Discussion

Michael falls into a koi pond at a meeting. Pam and Andy make cold calls. The Dunder Mifflin staff makes a Haunted House for Scranton's kids.

It's Halloween episode so it should be fun.

I love Michael's costume, it's completely inappropriate for little kids.

Funny episode as always. Love that they got footage of Jim jumping away from Michael to let him fall in, LOL. It's funny how much Michael and Jim are bonding this season as co-bosses. Also enjoyed the pairing of Pam and Andy; before the wedding episode had these two ever been in solo scenes before?

It's a little odd that the character development for Jim and Pam seem to be focused on turning them into bigger and bigger assholes. I mean, I guess that's a form of character development anyway. Not exactly one that I find endearing on a comedy show, though.

The Halloween aspect of it seemed to be something they just piled on as an afterthought, too. After the opening scene, it was just another typical episode.

I still watch the show and enjoy moments during it, but it's not as much a must-watch for me as it used to be. This episode was a good example of why. A few funny moments, but largely just the cast meandering around as even bigger caricatures of themselves than they are. I'm not even sure how Michael functions as a human being at this point -- he'd probably kill himself or others if he had to use eating utensils. How he managed to get a driver's license alone bewilders me.

But like I said, I still enjoy it. Just not nearly as much as I used to. :)

Plus, the people working there do all sorts of things that would get them fired IRL. Lots of worker insubordination.

I don't like the trend of making Jim and Pam more assholish. :(

Jim always turned into a bit of an ass whenever he was in charge (except during the Office Olympics episode). I think he knows how to be the lovable clown when he's not in charge, but being around Michael and his antics, he probably tries to swing too far in the other direction. Also, I remember Michael telling him and Dwight once that they both have trouble dealing with people. Which, despite coming from Michael who is far worse, was very true of both of them. Dwight is a fascist, and Jim is dismissive and aloof a lot of the time.

As for Pam, she is pregnant, so I've been chalking her moodiness up to that. And she did try to help out Andy at the end.

And lest we all forget Andy is not exactly a great person. He has anger issues, was dating a high school-er and got Dwight fired.

Could anyone make out what it was on the whiteboard that Erin didn't want to be made fun of for? At first, I thought it was "orphan," which I thought was both sick and funny as hell.

I paused and rewound that as much as I could and "orphan" was all I could make out. I think Angela's said "shrimpy" which is kind of funny.

I don't find Pam and Jim being assholish.

Some friends who were pregnant said they hate it when people just come up and rub their belly's. Given that fact I though Pam was being awesome

And Jim, the fact that he told Michael we was jealous I think did more for his self esteem.

Yeah... no.

Those aren't exactly the reasons people are calling them assholes. Purposely letting Michael fall into the pond? Not just failing to help, but actively moving out of the way instead of aiding him. That's a better example.

My interpretation is that Jim didn't want to get dragged down into the water as well.

He also felt Michael was overshadowing him. Jim probably wasn't too keen on stopping Michael from making himself look like an idiot.

^

The office in my eyes have always been a take on "normal" people with a slight exaggeration. We all have been over shadowed by people before and we've all done our little thing to stop people from not falling in the pond.

To me this episode was such a case. Jim felt bad for not doing anything and in the end everything turned out okay. what more could you want?

Jim and Pam have always sort of been assholes. I would be too if I had to deal with those people all day.

Michael's costume was hilarious.

I also enjoyed the "Subtle Sexuality" web offering.

I think a lot of how Jim has been reacting has to do with the fact he's scared to death he is BECOMING Michael. They foreshadowed it in a few episodes before, but I think now more than ever, Jim is scared he's becoming the thing he hates the most. I hate to say it, folks, but we have a Return of the Jedi-type storyline coming up soon. And honestly, I wouldn't be surprised AT ALL if they went down that road too... if Micheal starts calling Jim his "young apprentice" all bets are off. I think they have a lot of development to go with this storyline of the "co-managers" and how it all will playout, but I honestly would NOT be surprised at all if there was an epic showdown at the end of the season between Michael and Jim. And honestly I would like to Jim win out and take over the office for a while, only to find out he's not cut out for it and relinquish his role to Dwight or Michael so that the hilarious hijinks can continue for many seasons to come.
