Trek's BIG BANG

Yes, I know it is NOT a TREK show, and we have TV-MEDIA forum. But I think this show deserves to now be included as a STAR TREK topic with so much of it's plots involving STAR TREK. Last night's episode, with KHAN all over it, case in point.

If you are a TREK fan, and have not seen this show, please give it a chance. It is well written, and has TREK, COMIC BOOKS, STAR WARS, WOW, as major plot devices. Deserves more than just a TV-MEDIA thread..it deserves the full STAR TREK push!!!

What is it, when does it come on, or what site is it on, ect ect. I'll give it a chance.:techman:

He's talking about the tv show "The Big Bang Theory". No idea what time it's on in the USA, but it's currently into it's third season.

BIG BANG THEORY

The main characters are roomates...they are uber'geeks and work at some univercity.

Sheldon, the real star maker on this show, is like a cross between Tony Randall's Felix Unger and Ted Knight's Ted Baxter...he is very bright, and has no idea what women were put on this earth to do...he is, to put it simply, an uber-dork. But very well played, and not insulting...he is making smart a hip thing...

Leonard is his roomate. And he has, shock, a sexy girlfriend which is hard to believe..but its true....

Sheldon and Leonard have two friends at work who are pretty much regulars as well..Raj, who is from India and without a doubt, cause I have many indian friends, American Tv's best indian character, I guess, of all time..he is real cool....and then we have Howard. The 'jew' of the show, and a great character. He lives at home with his very protective mother. This character is so much like a friend of mine, its not funny!!! but it is!!

All four of these guys are socially inept, with Leonard showing hope now that he has a girlfriend...the plots always have something to do with Star Trek, Star Wars, WOW, comic books..you name it. Its always fun to see what Superhero shirt Sheldon will wear on each new episode (he is a DC fan)

Its really about these four dorks learning to fit into a normal world....but the inside lines about SCIFI movies and comic books make it all funny..take this recent episode...

The sexy baby sets one of the other dorks up with another girl. She told the girl she set him up with that he speaks five languages..too which he notes that he speaks six, if you include KLINGON...then it quickly noted by the other dorks that girls don't count Klingon as another language...

great show..great laughs..and all in good fun...

It is one of the best, most intelligent and damn funny shows around. Interestingly, I went to a taping once, and who was in line behind me, but David Gerrold.
Sheldon's character is really interesting, as he seems to be played as someone with Aspberger's. Very plausible since so many highly gifted people have developmental disabilities like this.

I never miss this show. It's so full of little (and not-so-little) in-jokes concerning Star Trek, Star Wars, comics and gaming. Wil Wheaton guest starred on this week's episode, playing himself...and he was a total dick! I loved it!

We've seen Sheldon in COMPLETE TOS/Spock makeup, with uniform, eyebrows, ears and tricorder.

For one episode, the guys were in a science-quiz contest and Sheldon wanted them all to wear TOS uniforms (command gold for himself and red for everyone else because they were "expendable!).

In another episode, Penny (the hot neighbor girl) was defending "her" geeks to another girl, warning her "not to attack when their shields are down...you know, like on 'Star Trek'..." and as soon as those words left her mouth she got this look of horror on her face and blurted out "Where the hell did that come from?!!"

Bonus question: name the "crossover" between this show and CBS' other sitcom "Two and a Half Men".

The creators of this show are obviously in tune to what sci-fi fans, comic fans and trekkies are really like. They give the characters all these attributes without making fun of them.

I'm still waiting to see Penny in a red TOS miniskirt.

Sheen, though playing himself, was in a scene as I recall..

I loved the 'red shirts' episode. Especially, at the end, when the Red shirt had the right answer, but Sheldon went with his own and lost...funny stuff!!!

Yeah, that would be nice:)

I just recently saw an episode (mid season 2) and on the strength of that snapped up both seasons and have just gone through them all:)

It's a fun show.

Its been hard to get my "genre" fans to watch it..but once they do? they're hooked.

My favorite episode is the one when Sheldon and Leonard's mom hit it off...and they were playing Rock Guitar at the end..the one with Wil Wheaton was good too, but I liked the one when Penny and Sheldon were at WAR!...or the one when she was hooked to that 'WOW' kind of game...great stuff ..i could keep going!!!

I plan to watch it as soon as I can get the past episodes, but I have a question about Sheldon. If he is a DC fan, then what are his feelings about Marvel?

he never goes so far as to comparing the two, Marvel vs DC..but his room is decorated with DC comic characters..and in the background you can see his collection, which is mainly DC..

in a recent episode at the comic book store, although it was dominated by DC (which is fine with me) a few Marvel books could be seen WAY IN THE BACK..which was fine with me too...

I forgot about that one, but there's another.

hmmmm...Is it like that one? Or is this a 'in universe' crossover, if that makes any sense...

Rob

On "Two and a Half Men", Charlie is a composer; he wrote the theme song for an anime called "Oshikuru: Demon Samurai". On "Big Bang Theory" about a month ago, the boys were watching an episode of "Oshikuru: Demon Samurai" on TV, and you could hear the theme song being played in the background!

No it doesn't. It's a ridiculously boring, unfunny show. It's "Nerd Friends" with a hot blonde just to make normal guys watch.

Well, that's fine. I trust you've watched every episode to confirm your belief that it's boring. At any rate, be careful not to confuse your opinion with fact.

I saw one episode. It bored me. Who made up this rule that you have to sit through every episode of a show you already hated once to be eligible to have a negative opinion? Even paid TV critics only watch one or two.

I'm sorry my opinion doesn't agree with yours, but I'm not required to agree with you. Go watch your stupid show and enjoy it all you like. This is just my take on it.
