Babylon 5 - I'm finally going to do it

Hey tomalak, are you watching the second time through using JMS' viewing order for the eps? Some events in S1 make a little more sense that way, such as Delenn getting the Triluminary prior to the events in Legacies instead of after.

I just saw Lost Tales for the second time ever... and while I guess it isn't as horrible as I remembered, it still commits the cardinal sin of being slow, boring, and lifeless.

A matter of perspective. I found them rather thought-provoking.

Na, still DVD order. I might go chronological order next time. Might explain a lot of things, such as why we barely see Delenn in the middle of the season.

The chronological order erases a silly continuity error in season three where Babylon 5 is finally open for business again...after being open for business in the previous episode. I wish the DVDs followed it. But, as far as aimless wishes go, I wish the visual effects weren't cropped a lot more. Alas.

So the Chronological order issue is all throughout the series and not just Season 1? Is there a site that gives the listing of the "correct" order. I know Season 1 had some continuity issues, but I thought it was better from Season 2 on.

Never mind. That's another thing on the Lurkers Guide.

Mostly the chronological order affects season one, although there are a few changes in seasons two and three. Season four, which is highly serialized, is as aired (although I believe the Lurker's Guide throws Thirdspace into the mix). The only one that moves in the order in season five is Day of the Dead.

You can use the B5 Wiki to get the chronological order. If you look at the episode sidebar there's an "Episode Chronology" subheading that shows the previous and next episodes in both chronological and broadcast order and click through them as you like. Took me and another editor bloody ages to go through all those articles! The info is sourced from the authorised chronology from B5Scripts, so it should be correct.
As Harvey says, the vast majority of the scrambling is in season 1, though there's a bit in season 2 as well but from then on the vast majority is (out of necessity) in the right order.

I've actually never watched B5 in the chronological order before myself, might be worth a go one day. After all, it made a very surprising difference when I did it with Crusade.

I'll be interested to see what (if any) new info we get from the Crusade script books when they (eventually) come out. JMS has hinted that there's movement in that area.

To the best of my knowlege I've got every Crusade script that JMS published to the crew, sometimes as many as 5, even for JMS-written scripts which was *very* unusual. If time permits, I'm hoping to find some way to do a comparison of all of the drafts for at least one script.

Well it would certainly be welcome in the Wika, just stick it under a "script to screen" sub-heading and it should be fine.
That reminds me, anyone know a good source for reference photos for B5 props? We're developing the prop type articles (PPGs, Links, Datacrystals etc.) all I can seam to find in the way of reference are a bunch of low quality auction snapshots and some shoddy looking reproductions. Screen grabs I can do myself, but it's not often there's a nice clear, unobstructed close-up to work with.

I finished Season 1 again, yay. :)

Babylon Squared - Still a great episode, but I really found the last scene interesting, in which Ivanova said that she would be going and Garibaldi would stay the next time there was contact with B4. That turned out to be true, and it was kinda awesome how things worked out.

Chrysalis - While i loved the fact that the series got better, it is a bit of a shame because this episode was awesome. There was just so much going on (Santiago's assassination, Delenn's Cocoon, Garibaldi) that this might be one of B5's most busy episodes. Heck, I'm wondering if it was better than, say, Za'Ha'Dum. I mean what happened in that episode was great, shocking and cool, but how many times does a season end with the viewer thinking a main character is going to die or in the case of Garibaldi, not knowing where he went. The thing I liked about this one was there were so many things that happened as we get into Season 2 it was like the series ratched the level up about 5 levels. The instance of what was happening and the questions we were left with for Season 2 made this episode all that much better.

I almost feel a bit uncomfortable saying that I liked Chrysalis more than something like Za'Ha'Dum (And I'm honestly not sure) but that's one of the things I like about watching this series again.

Just watched the first two episodes of Season 2. I really am enjoying watching these early Sheridan episodes. The seeds of dissent were sowed when Garibaldi's aid was able to go free. Also liked G'kar reading literature, and doing so in a way that reminded me of what he is going to become later on.

Next up is the episode I remember not liking all that much (It was decent though) while everyone else did love it. I wonder if Crusade/A Call To Arms will let me like this episode better, with the whole technomage thing and all.

FYI, the Technomage that pops up in that episode, Elric, is the peep who taught Galen. tru dat! Anyways, I'm sure it's been brought up in this thread, but I really recommend the Technomage Trilogy of books. The Technomage episode is really expanded upon in the books, as well as later events such as behind the scenes things going down in "Za Ha Dum". And while on the topic of books, you have to read the Psi Core trilogy. F'n killer.

There are still inconsistencies in the chronology order. e.g. Lennier's character development in "Quality of Mercy" would appear to precede the story involving Lennier in "Eyes"; Londo's character development in "Quality" would likely precede his arc in "Voice in the Wilderness"; the fighter pilot who dies in Babylon Squared of rapid aging is alive in "Signs and Portents". Somewhere around I posted the original planned PTEN order (which the current thewb.com sticks to) which smooths out those issues but presents a couple of others.

Why did I not like Geometry of Shadows before? I saw it last night and I think Crusade did help me appreciate this episode more. There were hints of the Technomage exodus, we didn't really learn all that much about them, and that Ivanova story was laugh out loud funny. I also think it helps Season 4 did such a great job with the Drazi (Or was it season 5, I forgot) that they became a great alien race.

Finished season 4 a few weeks ago, and I'm finding it hard to bother with season 5 at all. I need some enticing.

Uh...eventually Byron goes away?

Most of the latter half of the season is pretty good, and Sleeping in Light alone is worth slogging through most of the crap.
