Boy trapped in homemade balloon...

When I came into this thread I read the news item and the boy had already been found safe at home. However, I read the blow by blow thread and it's been fascinating to read, even down to the first poster who speculated that the kid was at home hiding. Really very interesting read, everyone!

Out of the mouths of babes (by way of the Associated Press)...

Richard Heene adamantly denied the notion that the whole thing was a big publicity stunt. "That's horrible after the crap we just went through. No."

During a live interview with CNN, Falcon said he had heard his family calling his name.

"You did?" Mayumi Heene said.

"Why didn't you come out?" Richard Heene said.

Falcon answered, "You had said that we did this for a show."

Later, Richard Heene bristled when the family was asked to clarify and said he didn't know what his son meant. He didn't ask his son what he meant by "a show."

"I'm kind of appalled after all the feelings that I went through, up and down, that you guys are trying to suggest something else," Richard Heene said.
 :guffaw:

I have just looked at about 3/5s of the Wife Swap show that this family appeared on. Oh, my god, what an awful family.

I thought it would be interesting to live in a house in which the father was an inventor and a scientist.

However Richard Heene is, as far as I can see not teaching his children real science, I don't really think he knows much about science at all.

He is a horrid, abusive man (this is assuming that he is really like he is portrayed in Wife Swap - personally I think it might all be put on).

The chidlren didn't seem to be very nice boys.

It looks like it was Miss Chicken who called it.

That's right, I remember thinking that the poster knew children. :) Good call, Miss Chicken.

Wow, what an incredible waste of time and resources. You'd think if this guy is such a brilliant scientist he'd develop moorings for his weather balloon that a 6 year old couldn't circumvent.

Yeah good call!
I did the same as Willscorpse and read this thread after it had all happened. Pretty funny reading it now andf everyone's reactions.

And there you have it folks. Guess all the "conjecture" wasn't so far off the mark was it now?

Well that's at least the 3rd time you've brought up waterboarding just in this thread. Perhaps you missed your calling and should be working at Gitmo.

I'm trying to make a point. They have to be make an example of. Media whores need to know that this will NOT be taken lightly.

So torture is your answer? :wtf: A little public humiliation should do the job.

This is the only way to gather reliable intel. :shifty:

So, was it staged or not?

Well I think it's still up in the air whether or not the parents were in on it.

IF the parents were in on it, then yes they need go after them. But I'm not sure this just isn't a case of kids being kids telling wild and imaginative tales.

The fact these people were on the "Wife Swap" show does make it seem plausible however that this was some kind of stunt because clearly they aren't adverse to publicity.

All kidding aside, based on the comments I'm seeing on the news, I'm led to believe this was a hoax. The little kid puked on television during the interview, the comment about it being done for a show, PLUS the fact that dad called the TV news station when the balloon launched. Mmmmmmmm, I don't know about you, but if it were an actual incident/accident, a responsible parent would be thinking to call 911. :vulcan:
