The Final Ongoing Star Trek Box Office Thread

Does anyone know which countries it ended up doing best in, outside of the US?

Ok, this list is a month old, but I don´t think it has changed that much.

Top 5 excluding the US:

1. UK
2. Canada
3. Germany
4. Australia
5. China

I'm absolutely certain that IMAX figure can be tripled next time out just be doubling the run time...

Heck, my IMAX just extended Trek again after another well-attended weekend, kicking Harry's ass... meaning I can wait until the 11th before seeing it "one last time"... :p

That's why that's also an important consideration when slotting Star Trek XII. Since there are a lot of big movies coming out in 2011, there's going to be a lot of competition to lock up the IMAX screens.

Won't there be a lot of big movies coming out in 2012 too? I mean you can run, but you can't hide...

So this is the end then for this thread, I am going to miss this, what a great run.

Will we have thread in the future that tracks the DVD and blu-ray sales when it's released?

Yeah, but considering Paramount hasn't nailed a date down for 2011, and since 2012 is fairly open in terms of weekends being locked down, it would be easier for them to get a longer contract for an IMAX engagement in 2012 than it will be for 2011 at this point.

The late move of HP6 from Fall 2008 to Summer 2009 probable cost it millions of dollars from IMAX screens since it had to wait two weeks after its regular release before Transformers:ROTF's IMAX contract ended.

Star Trek's similar move cost it some money from IMAX as well since it could only fit in a two week contract before Night at the Museum 2's contract kicked in.

Well, I can only hope that if they do take their time and release it in summer 2012, that they shoot 2 and 3 consecutively and just wait until 2013 for the 3rd installment.

Grumble.

Where did you get the Canadian numbers? I thought they are embedded with US domestic totals.

As discussed here:

http://www.trekbbs.com/showpost.php?p=3216278&postcount=137

there are in fact separate numbers for Canada that get posted every week on this website:

http://www.tribute.ca/boxoffice

So if you track that site, you can get the separate #s for every movie.

Also, as discussed here:

http://www.trekbbs.com/showpost.php?p=3220359&postcount=148

if you want to break down 13 of the biggest markets by *per capita* contribution to Star Trek, the order would be:

USA
Canada
Australia
UK
Germany
South Korea
France
Spain
Italy
Japan
Mexico
Russia
Brazil

And if you do it by fraction of the country's GDP, the order would be:

USA
Canada
UK
Australia
South Korea
Germany
Mexico
Spain
Russia
France
Italy
Brazil
Japan

Canada did almost 25 Million coming from only 34 million people that's pretty good Trek support.

~$24.5 million in *Canadian* $. So that's a bit more than $25 million in US $.

Still slightly less per capita than the US, but higher than any other country.

EDIT: Actually, wait, I did that backwards. Not sure what I was thinking. If it's $24.5 million in CDN$, it'd be a bit lower in US $. My original #s in the other thread are correct though.

All I can say is that the none english speaking countries (except for our German friends) missed out big time!

If we apply the Batman Begins to The Dark Knight overseas box office increase to the next Star Trek movie, then Trek 12 will make.... ...

$356 Million overseas....

I would be happy with $200 million and I think that is a realistic target at this stage.

Yeah if the next one can do 300 Million domestic 200 Million International that will be a big enough gain to keep thing moving.

The worldwide total will be a lot harder to move up than the domestic. Assuming WOM is good then the domestic can probably surpass $300 million but I don't see the worldwide being bigger than $150 million really unless we get a big name star.

I wonder what the budget will be ? same or an increase. I'd like a small increase to $160 million (increase could to go a big name actor) and ad-wise you can maybe clam down a little domestically and knock it up worldwide. I do wonder though if we get a big name actor for the villian will it overshadow the crew ?
