Mock the Week renwed for 2 series

Mock The Week, BBC Two's satirical panel show has been commissioned for a further two series Janice Hadlow, Controller BBC Two, announced today.

The acclaimed show, made by Angst Productions, combines the best elements of panel show, stand-up and improvised games with two teams of comedians taking a satirical swipe at the news and world events.

Dara O'Briain returns as host and each week will be joined by panel members made up of top satirical comedians, established stars and exciting new talent from the best of the stand-up circuit.

Janice Hadlow, Controller BBC Two, said: "Mock The Week is a major part of the BBC Two schedule, regularly delivering wit and energy to an enthusiastic audience. This two series commitment shows just how much we value it."

After seven successful series, regular panellist Frankie Boyle will not be returning to the show due to other television commitments.

Dan Patterson, series producer at Angst Productions, said: "Frankie has been a brilliant member of the team since the beginning and the door is always open for him to come back. We wish him all the best with his other projects."

I'm glad to hear MTW is coming back, but no Frankie? That sucks. He's usually the best part of the show, I'll miss him. Is there another comedian around who can say the things he says? If so I hope they find him and get him on the panel.

MTW without Frankie is a bit like the Battle of Stirling Bridge without Stirling Bridge. :( Mind you, David Mitchell did a good job in the last show.

^I hope they bring in a permanent replacement rather than rotating, they're usually hit and miss when they do that. But on the other hand it would be good to keep the slot open for if he can come back.

it might to nice to shake the regulars up a bit, 4 panellists & 1 host, makes it hard for a guest to get a word in, the 5 guys all knowing each other so well.

still no Frankie, that is a big worry, still 2 year commitment is a good thing

I believe MTW needs a shake-up anyway. The last series was very weak in my opinion. More guests who actually contribute is the way forward and losing FB is one way to do it. Sure, I wouldn't pick him to leave - I'd choose Parsons any day - but equally now he can do other things, and I won't have to see him using his material in both his shows and MTW and thus get bored of it.

I'd happily have only two regulars and four guests.

First Simon Amstell on never mind the buzzcocks now this. Frankie was my favorite i really missed him on the last show. I will give the series ago with out Frankie but if i could get rid of any one it would be Andy Parsons.

From the point of view of getting more from the guests, then Andy Parsons isn't the one to lose: you can often spot him stepping back to let them in, whereas Frankie did tend to grab the mike at any chance (and then deliver good stuff I hasten to add).

^ True, but Parsons is the weak link in my opinion. Howard, Boyle and Dennis are all much funnier than he is.

Buzzcocks I think should be fine with the guest hosts, though it's a shame Amstell only did a couple of series. He made that chair his own. He split opinion too, but Fielding will take up that mantle quite easily.

I'd agree with that assessment.

Russell Howard is the weak link IMO.

You just don't like his Bristolian accent :shifty:

Oh and I'd be happy if Lucy Porter is never on there again, she did a comedy night at my uni a few years ago and she was SHITE.

1) that is not the case

2) I am in two minds about Lucy, one she is not funny, two she is cute, would it be sexist of me to suggest that she just appear on the show, to just "look cute" not to even try and make any jokes?

I actually thought James Corden did a pretty good job in the chair in Thursday's episode. Would still love to see Mark Lamarr make a return to the show though.

I think Andy Parsons is the weak link too, and as for Lucy Porter I saw a couple of her sets on TV a few years back and thought she was funny but she's never seemed as funny when she's appeared on Mock the Week.
