Mock the Week renwed for 2 series

As for Hugh, I think there's not much to say because he's reliably funny but never really gets a chance to shine like Frankie, Dara and Russell seem to.
You don't suppose he feels... outnumbered? :bolian:

(yes, it took me THAT long to think up that "joke"... ;))

At times Hugh is my favourite and you can tell he is an actor as well because his performances on the last round (scenes we'd like to see) are brilliant and he always put a bit more in than standing there telling a joke.

Well it looks like David Mitchell might be too busy to take over, a show he'll be hosting has just been picked up for a series.

From Broadcast

Hat Trick Productions is adapting Israeli news panel show format The Bubble for BBC2. In a twist on the UK indie’s BBC1 show Have I Got News For You, The Bubble asks three celebrity contestants to separate true news stories from fakes after spending four days locked away in a country house with no phone, TV or internet access.
Host David Mitchell will present them with a mix of news reports, headlines and images from TV, newspapers and celebrity gossip magazines.
Mitchell, who has guest hosted HIGNFY, fronted a non-broadcast pilot earlier this year featuring Katy Brand and Frank Skinner.

Also Russell Howard seems to have his own series too...
BBC3 has lined up comedian Russell Howard to host a younger-skewing take on Charlie Brooker’s Newswipe, in a bid to boost the channel’s coverage of current affairs.

The 9 x 30-minute series, Russell Howard’s Good News, was ordered by BBC3 controller Danny Cohen as one of three new shows for the channel, which also includes a drama about lesbians and a full series of pilot comedy Mouth to Mouth.
According to the BBC, Howard “will offer his unique perspective on the big stories dominating all of our news outlets, from online and print to broadcast, as well as picking up on those sometimes overlooked things that make him smile.”
The series, which is set to air this autumn, will be will be produced by Avalon in front of a live studio audience and comprises a seven-week run, followed by a best-of and a Christmas special.
It follows an edict from the BBC Trust to boost levels of news and current affairs on BBC3, despite the historically poor performance of straight forward news bulletins for the channel.

The Bubble: sounds awful

Russell Howard’s Good News: despite my not being a fan it sounds like the best of the two, not sure why you need a show like Newswipe, I would rather it was Charlie Brookers Newswipe on BBC 3.

^Because Newswipe isn't a programme for the yute...

I don't know, sounds like an interesting idea, just think how much can go right past you if you happen to be away for the day and don't check news/internet, and how much you could miss in a week.
I'm willing to give it a go.

As for Lucy Porter, I don't think she could say anything unfunny in my eyes since I'm not really listening and just imagining her romping through a cornfield in skimpy underwear.

Now Lauren Laverne, however... they need to invite her back.
Abso-fecking-lutely. Twice.

I hope this Mouth to Mouth comedy is better than BBC3's last effort, the shitawful Lunch Monkeys. Painful viewing. The Bubble sounds balls, and Howard's show... do we REALLY need another news-related show with funny things in it? REALLY?

^ Ah, but at least Charlie Brooker bought a intelligent examination of the medium that is TV. Plus he can rant to an A grade level (can't they get him as a guest on MTW?)

Russell Howard will be amusing but not much more than that.

not when we have yet to produce anything nearly as funny as the Daily Show, honestly I would just buy the format rights, and pay John Oliver to host it.

I don't know, a lot of the time I think Daily show is very hit and miss. And I think The Late Edition with Marcus Brigstocke was similar and was at least as funny.

I saw the Late Edition, it was not nearly as good.

The Day Today, Brass Eye and Newswipe = you're talking shite
Aww, he is blind for he loves Jon Stewart.
im not as blind as John Stewart is for Obama, all he ever does now is point & laugh at Fox News. That is hardly worthy of a 4 day a week show.

Loved newswipe, funny on a different level.

I'd disagree, I don't think Daily show is nearly as funny as you do. Over the top American shite half the time, and when they are subtle they then need to go and point out that they've just been subtle.

Since we've had a discussion about what Simon Amstell is doing in here, I thought this would be a good place to post this... BBC have commissioned Simon Amstell's Sitcom

From BBC Press Office

Simon Amstell is to make his writing and acting debut for Grandma's House, a new sitcom for BBC Two, it was announced today.
Simon has penned the series with Dan Swimer who he previously worked with on PopWorld and Never Mind The Buzzcocks.
The six x 30-minute series commissioned from Tiger Aspect will start filming in Feburary and transmit later in the year.
Inspired by Simon Amstell's own life, each episode we return to see his family at his Grandma's House in Essex.
Simon will be joined by a fantastic ensemble cast including: Linda Bassett as Grandma (East Is East, Larkrise To Candleford, Sense And Sensibility), Geoffrey Hutchings (Benidorm, Sunshine) as Grandpa, Rebecca Front (Nighty Night, The Day Today) as Mum and Nicola Walker (Spooks, People Like Us) as Auntie Liz.

I was hoping to see Nicola Walker in spooks again.
As the comedy show is not on BBC1 or 3 i might give it ago.

Good news that is a great show.
I am sad frankie won't be on it for my money he is the best comic since Bill Hicks. I might be a little biased as I like him hate the Royal Family.

New press release put out today says the new series starts in January and it looks like there won't be a replacement for Frankie Boyle.
From BBC Press Office

Fresh from their sell-out nationwide tours, O'Briain and the other popular regulars Russell Howard and Andy Parsons will be joined as ever by Outnumbered star Hugh Dennis and the very best talent from the stand-up circuit to supply must-see satire.

Joining the team to date are Milton Jones, Mark Watson, Stewart Francis, Jack Whitehall, Ed Byrne, Sarah Millican and Holly Walsh and, for the first time, Patrick Kielty, John Bishop, Chris Addison, Andrew Maxwell, Kevin Bridges and Andi Osho.
