Mock the Week renwed for 2 series

^ Yep, stand-up and writing. Not sure it's a sitcom, but definitely writing. I would dearly love to see Lamarr come back as a guest host... but I've been saying about Deayton on HIGNFY for about 4 years as well!

I also don't find Lucy Porter funny. In fact very few of the last series' guests entertained me very much, other than that tall Canadian guy whose name I've completely forgotten and Greg whatshisname.

It also mystifies me how people can't like Russell Howard.

Lucy Porter would be better on MTW if she didn't add that little "please like me" giggle every time she goes up to the microphone. FWIW, Russell Howard has really irritated me this series, which is weird because I've always liked him in the past. His extreme leftist, holier-than-thou, ironic "oh, it was brilliant" views have started to get on my nerves.

As for Frankie, he carried the last series ("'Flobadob' said Ben. Because he'd just had a stroke."). On the bright side, if he's not on MTW, that means he can't cobble together all of his best one liners from the show and try to pass it off as a stand-up DVD.

A shake up might be good, although David Mitchell needs to tone down the ranting every now and again...its gets grating seeing him do it on Qi then MTW then that tell a lie show.....The milk and bread one on Qi was the most embarrassing one...so just tone it down a bit Dave bud there's a good chap.

I also think, with some reluctance, that Andy is the weakest of the regular panelists on MTW, which is a shame as I do like many of his contributions. Then again I am a bit biased as I remember him well from Radio 2's "Parsons and Naylor's Pull-Out Sections" (in terms of edginess it's somewhere between "The News Hudd-Lines" and Punt & Dennis's "It's Been A Bad Week"). Yet seeing him on the Too Hot For TV DVD (LOL, "TFHC") he does fluff his lines more, and a few times he has struggled to build himself up before landing a wisecrack, especially during the standup sections of the show.

As for David Mitchell... his rants are the best thing about him! Leave Dave Alone! :D

Not many comments about Hugh Dennis, I see, though. I have felt that in recent weeks the focus seems to be taken away from Hugh at times, or maybe it's because he's consistently outshone by Frankie each week. But you just can't not like Hugh, even though he can't resist the odd Jimmy Saville impersonation...

Andy also seems to use the same exagerated mannerisms to make the joke for him, rather than actually making a joke, rather a lot too.

I like David Mitchell's rants too (anyone else watch his Soapbox Vids?) I usually agree with what he's saying too, what's that say about me?

As for Hugh, I think there's not much to say because he's reliably funny but never really gets a chance to shine like Frankie, Dara and Russell seem to.

Dara had me in stitches with the cat heroin thing he did.

I really like Russell Howard but i agree with you all on Lucy she is not funny.
What is the name of the tall guy who plays head of 6th form in the inbetweeners ? He's not too bad.

First Simon Amstell on never mind the buzzcocks now this. Frankie was my favorite i really missed him on the last show. I will give the series ago with out Frankie but if i could get rid of any one it would be Andy Parsons.

I said the exact same thing, and I watched Buzzcocks, and even though I love James Corden to bits, it wasn't the same. Amstell brought a new, funnier edge to the show.

As for MTW, I'm hoping David Mitchell will fill in for Frankie, whenever he's been on MTW before I've found him hilariously funny, he just seems to let it all go. Although he's got other commitments like Would I Lie To You, I think he can fit it in to his schedule.

Or not? If you don't like him, but you'll be fine listening to Frankie be racist and shockingly offensive, then you can surely sit through David Mitchell's excellent rants, as most of the time he's actually correct in what he's ranting about.

Greg Davies I think his name is. And Russell is brilliant, I've met him once (I live near the same part of Bristol that he's from), he's a nice guy too.

Frankie was beginning to hog the limelight a tad too much, a break might end up making the show better like Merton's absence from HIGNFY did. David Mitchell can easily fill in for the Frankie rants, although he's way too much in demand to be a permanent fixture. Sean Locke is pretty good on QI, might work on MTW too if he's interested.

Russell is a God Of Humour but he's been relying a lot of recycled material from his stand-up routines... having seen his DVD you can spot them very easily and he's supposedly a master of improv so I'd like to see him moving away from that a bit more... that said if you've got a pre-prepared joke for a segment, why not use it?

And shame on anyone who finds Andy Parsons unfunny... he's the quietest of the bunch, yes, but his jokes rarely fall flat simply because he's content to wait until he's got a good one... whereas Frankie and Russell in particular favour the "machine gun" approach to getting a laugh.

As for Lucy Porter, I don't think she could say anything unfunny in my eyes since I'm not really listening and just imagining her romping through a cornfield in skimpy underwear.

Now Lauren Laverne, however... they need to invite her back. Jo Caulfield is pure MILFtastic fun as well.

:wtf: I'd say the opposite. He keeps quiet until he thinks of something, 10 minutes after everyone else, which he tells with that 'I know I'm funny' look on his face, and what he says is without fail entirely unfunny. Every time he opens his mouth, he grates on me, I just cannot find him funny, he just comes across as dumb; the guy in the pub who explains why his jokes are funny.

imho, MTW would greatly improve if Parsons were removed.

No, I think Parsons is a good element to the show. I do feel his jokes are weaker on a certain level, but I also think his jokes are a little more intelligent than the "we just want to make you laugh" jokes made by Russell and Frankie. For me, he brings in a good balance to the show, if it were all like Russell and Frankie, you wouldn't bother watching as it would become unfunny.

Take "Would I lie To You" for example - David Mitchell bring out the intelligent rants and jokes, whereas Lee Mack brings blunt humour to the show (trying desperately to avoid using the term "unintelligent jokes"). That's why I like the show. If it had two Lee Macks on it, I wouldn't enjoy it, same if it had two David Mitchells.

That's why, as much as I love David Mitchell, I think he wouldn't be good on the show, as it would be out of balance and Andy Parsons wouldn't get a fair shout (or maybe even vice versa).

Good news and disappointing news all in one package.

IMO Mitchell's the only one that could come close to replacing Frankie. If they can't get him, just have it as an extra slot for guests.

The funniest thing Andy Parsons does is the way he walks up to the mike in the stand-up round. Audience laughs at it every time. I find myself agreeing with cultcross' assessment of him.

Me too, he basically uses big pauses, and exaggerated smiles and people laugh.

My mum likes his bald head.

This series just gone has been a little of the boil for me. The penultimate episode, Frankie's swansong, in particular had all the humour sucked out of it. The gags were just as funny as always, but it looked as if no one actually wanted to be on the panels.

Agreed. The Parsons hate can fuck right off, I've seen him many times at the Edinburgh fringe and he's brilliant - a master of comic timing as far as I'm concerned. I guess he doesn't talk about shagging owls enough for the general MtW audience.

MtW can survive without Frankie Boyle. Truth be told I was getting a little tired of him anyway, he recycles material all the fucking time and there's a specific delivery he does when reacting to gags that I noticed a while bag and it bugs me every time I see it. Unfortunately I fell out of love with him when that happened, which is a shame, because his brand of unashamed but well crafted foul-mouthery is right up my street. He really isn't the genius he's made out to be though, good gag writer but relies too heavily on being loud and Scottish.

David Mitchell would make a fantastic permanent replacement, his lexiconical rants are every bit as cutting as Frankie Boyle's shock tactics and a lot more besides. Sadly they won't get him and will more than likely plump for this rotating weekly guest replacement shit that every cunting panel game has been doing since Alex Deaton snorted that cocaine off a hooker's tits.

While I'm at it, Buzzcocks was unfiltered shit the other night. That may be because I hate James Corden with the fire of a billion exploding suns.

^So it's James Corden and me eh?
It's Angus Deayton by the way.
Nearly everyone I've asked has told me Andy Parsons is rubbish live... Even you if I recall correctly.

Ah well, he's a cock however he's spelt.

You don't recall correctly! :p

I f'ing love his live shows. I really don't get the hate.
Hmm well a few people on twitter told me he was rubbish, I thought one was you. A couple of other irl too, so I never got tickets for his show when I had the chance.

It's not so much hate as he seems to be the weakest link on the show, rather than dislike for him.

You don't suppose he feels... outnumbered? :bolian:

(yes, it took me THAT long to think up that "joke"... ;))
