Let's talk about this DS9 5-year time jump for a second.

talking about New Frontier characters being dead in a thread about DS9 WITH NO SPOILER WARNINGS.

No kidding. I hadn't read that either.

I mean, I suppose getting spoiled happens sooner or later if you hang out on a board like this, but man that's annoying.

I think the OP makes a good point. But the Ascendant thing has been building so long, that I'd like to see that- as well as the Taran'atar GQ thing which is probably related and will bring things full circle, in the book after the Beasts one. If it isn't touched on there anyway.

But I have great respect for DRGIII's work, so I'm not "worried" anyway.

Thrawn, I must say...we've had our disagreements in the past, but I have to say...those were words of wisdom! And I can heave a big sigh of relief.

6) Ezri. Ezri's arc, from Avatar > Soul Key, was perfect - she switched to command, slowly gained confidence, ended up commanding the Defiant, and realized she needed to leave. Her arc is done. We don't need a book just after the Soul Key with her leaving the station; we have the whole story already. And her relationship with Bashir is ended.

Okay...maybe I'm an ol' fuddy-duddy who missed too much, but...what book had Ezri realizing she needed to leave, and what were her reasons?

Starts in... Warpath maybe? The hint of it any way. More of a decision to spread her wings, take advantage of Dax, and we know by Destiny that she has done so.

The Soul Key has her mention to Bashir (iirc) that she's thinking about leaving, and the prose strongly hints she's not exactly "thinking about" it so much as planning to.

Wow--she has a scene with Bashir after the break?

I REALLY need to pick that up, now....

But in the meantime...is this a heart-to-heart talk? Do they discuss anything personal, a la "what might have been"? What are the emotions going on in that scene?

After The Soul Key; before the next DS9 novel, which is coming out in very late 2010. It'll be titled The Rough Beasts Of Empire, by David R. George III, and be part of the Typhon Pact miniseries.

Honestly, I don't remember at all. But, there isn't much time given to the rest of the crew in Soul Key (mostly Kira and Vaughn), so I doubt it was the kind of scene you'd want.

EDIT: Went back and found the scene. Very minor spoilers, but just in case:

Quark mentions that he's heard a rumor that Ezri is planning to leave. She says she's just thinking about it and tries to change the subject. Bashir and Prynn, who're also at the table, push her some more and she says she's been thinking about it for a long time, and again stresses she still hasn't made up her mind. Bashir says it's really sudden, and Quark tries to convince her to stay, and then on a tangent Prynn gets an inspiration and starts talking about something else. So, yeah - not very much of what you're looking for.

Thanks for the clarification.
