Yeah, it seems to be just a FOX thing for the American broadcast. Not really, it's been too long. I don't remember an evil look-alike replaceing somebody.
Walter is still amazing, but the show overall is still pretty mediocre. It really stands in the shadow of the X-Files and never really manages to be truly compelling.
