Deadlock

Wang mentioned a few years ago that he had been called into Berman's office with Jennifer Lien and told that that they were going to be removing a character from the show but they weren't sure who yet so they were giving them the chance to audition for other shows (which was why Wang made appearances on a sitcom during Voyager's run and why Lien got the job on Men in Black the Series).

Shortly afterward they got the script for Scorpion and it was pretty much spelled out that Harry was going to die. Over the summer (shortly before Season 4 was to begin filming) People magazine released their list of sexiest actors and Wang was on the list. They had already developed Seven of Nine to be his replacement, but Paramount and B&B decided that they couldn't let the press from his being on the list to escape them. They called Lien in and told her she was being killed off in the second episode of the season and that Wang would be staying. They rewrote the episode and Season 4 began.

That's how Harry got saved and Kes died. I recell reading too that Kate Mulgrew was very unhappy that Lien was removed from the series too.

I do remember that Wang might have been let go after season three but wasn't aware of those details you provided. Thanks for posting them!

LOLZ, the original poster was banned for no reason, how strange. This place is way too strict it seems. GREAT thread though.

I thought he was horrible in "Timeless" too.
Fact of the matter is, no matter what lines he got or opportunities, his acting was always awful. A good actor can be convincing even with a couple of lines, Wang consistently couldn't be convincing with a whole episode.

I agree completely.

I remember this episode. I liked it for the twist at the end. It looked like the badly damaged Voyager would not make it, but that winds up being the ship that survives. Nice touch.

I tried writing a sequel fanfic to Deadlock once: Naomi Wildman finds out about the events in Deadlock, gets upset that her mother is not her 'real' mother, and goes to Harry because he's the only other person from Naomi's Voyager.

The Doctor is an idiot.

Up until the quantum duplication, they were all the same exact people. Of course the other doctor didn't have a name yet because *he* didn't. Did he think that his counterpart just happened to come up with one between the time of the duplication and the end of the episode?

It's been a while since I saw the episode but was the doctor informed about the intricacies about the duplication? I know Janeway, Torres, Chakotay, and Kim figured out the reason for the duplication at a science station on the bridge but at this point in the series he didn't have his mobile emitter nor was he considered anything more than a medical hologram.

Perhaps the senior staff simply gave him the general explanation of the other Voyager but didn't feel it was necessary to get into all the detailed scientific reasoning with a hologram. So he thought the other Voyager was in a parallel universe with a different history or something.

Was there ever a scene where the doctor was told everything that was going on? Or do people just assume he knew everything because he was on the ship? I'm just trying to throw out some plausible explanation!

^ - even stupider was when duplicate Harry answered "I didn't have time to ask", that made so little sense I nearly threw up there and then.

Yeah, that IS pretty dumb. I forgot about that one. The doctor's statement can be explained by my comment above but Kim's response makes completely no sense when he was one of the people who know exactly why there is another Voyager. That was an opportunity for Kim to say something like, "I highly doubt your counterpart figured out a name in the last hour and you didn't!"
