NFL Football 2009

^^ I'm surprised the NFL hasn't realized 8:30 is too late for a game. I know the ratings (and advertising dollars) drop pretty dramatically as the game goes on. I wouldn't schedule a game any later than 7, personally. That would ensure everyone, not just drunken 20 somethings and the unemployed can watch and enjoy an evening football game.

pork... I agree the OT system is busted. unless I'making up numbers, I thought I read that something like 70 or 80 percent of OT's are decided by the coin toss, which is unacceptable. Personally, I would like them to just give each team 1 drive, and if neither team scores, it's a tie. end of story. this seams especially feasible given that we're probably going to come out of the lockout with an 18 game schedule, so the individual games are going to count for a little less.

I think they make up for it with west coast viewers who don't want to watch a game at 3:00 in the afternoon on a Monday (or Thursday).

Looks like Troy Polamalu has fallen victim to the Madden Curse. Out three to six weeks with an MCL sprain.

Watch your back, Fitzgerald.

Silly me not thinking 4th dimensionally :techman:

I guess without really thinking I just assumed West coasters were on a tape delay.

I agree that the OT needs to be fixed, but the perfect setup in my mind is that each team gets 1 guarenteed drive, and if they are still tied at the end of those drives, then the rest of the OT quarter plays out as sudden death. That way, both teams get a chance, but there is still pressure to stand strong and get the job done on both sides of the ball.

I personally think they should just play short overtime periods, and whoever has the highest score at the end wins. If no one scores in the first overtime, they play another one. But the networks wouldn't like that because it'd eat into their primetime lineups.

Watch out, don't give NBC Any Ideas. Remember what happened during the olympics. Next thing I know they might tape delay the Super Bowl just to make east coast people happy.

True enough. Even 8:30pm EST is pushing it since that's only 5:30pm here. You really have to leave work right on time (or a little early) and hope the traffic isn't too bad in order be there for the start of the game.

I'm looking forward to another 16 games of wondering whether or not the Lions can win. Tough opener for them today, playing down in New Orleans. Could the losing streak reach 18 games?

Jets win! Matt Schaub started making bad decisions after the Jets blitzed the hell out of him on the first drive, and Mark Sanchez is officially the shit.

Oh man do I feel for Bengals fans.......
I saw that too. What a way to lose a game.

Coming from someone without an interest in either team, that was absolutely brutal for the Bengals and their fans.

The Broncos and their fans must be ecstatic right about now. Good to see No-More-Neckbeard Orton win his Broncos debut (no, preseason doesn't count)--I always thought he was a serviceable, if not very spectacular QB.

That was a pretty crazy end to the Broncos game. I flipped channels since I had officially gave up on the Lions, and caught the play right after it happened. I couldn't believe it. Right place, right time for Stokely.

As for the Lions, different year, same result. Though they looked far better in this defeat than they have for a long time. Their special teams looked quite good. But the streak is now up to 18 straight losses.

God, I wish I had been able to see that Denver play live. I missed most of the game because of prior arrangements (who the hell really wants to do something when football is on TV?!?), but I was driving home for the last 7 minutes of the game and was able to catch it on the radio, though I listened to the last 40 seconds (10 real-world minutes) in the parking lot. I was so pissed that the Denver D choked on the most important drive of the game, and then utterly shocked when Stokley ran it in! I was in the middle of a major temper tantrum (still in the parking lot) when I heard Orton threw another tip, and didn't realize what was going on until they were saying thast Stokley was down to the 10 yard line. I am still in shock that they pulled it off!

With that said, I still think that Orton needs to be on the bench.

Jesus Mary and Joseph!

:scream:

The 2009 Rams have already started work on their patch for the Quilt of Ineptitude.

Unbe-fucking-lievable.

They start by fumbling the opening kickoff.

The defense gives them 3 turnovers in the first half. What do the Rams do with them? A fumble. A punt. And a missed field goal. 0 points.

Then, they score a touchdown on a blocked field goal to tie the game, only to have it called back by too many men on the field. And the worst part is, it wasn't even called! It was noticed by the replay officials after the play was over. Since when can you overturn a play after the fact because the refs missed a penalty call? Are they going to start reviewing touchdowns for missed holding calls? What the fuck?

The Rams had 152 false starts. Incognito had two personal fouls. The Rams converted third downs at about a 11% clip.

An absolutely atrocious game. I'm so fucking sick of losing!!!
