Who is the worst (mainstage) character in Trek?

Everyone who voted for Wes is just jealous. He is more intelligent than you are and he was allowed to drive the Enterprise:techman:

Sorry Kes lovers. I just hated that character even more than Neelix or Phlox. Blech!

And i am sorry to see Wes so high up in the poll.

I really don't understand the Wesley haters.

Anyway, I chose B'elanna. Always on the rag, "what does it mean to be a klingon?" bullcarp

Her, Chakoay and Neelix.

As soon as I read the thread title I knew Wesley was gonna cop it

I went for Kes and Troi. Troi because she would NOT shut up about sensing stuff (yeah, that's what she was there to do, but it just did my head in her banging on about it all the damn time) and Kes because, well, she was just a bit boring. And I agree with Pindar - the episode where she comes back for revenge was on Virgin 1 recently and it was like a timewarp back to when I used to get very bored watching Voyager's Kes-centric episodes. I just thought she was dull, and I'm sorry that I can't qualify why!

I voted all good--I didn't always like all of them, but I wouldn't judge any to be the worst. There'd by a 5-way tie or so, and none are without merit.

ETA--wait a minute--no Enterprise?

Travis Mayweather. He was born in space... and he flew the ship. And in the finale he got to bang this hot reporter chick (just like Manny Coto I'm not counting TATV as the finale). That's all you can say about Travis.

Neelix is by far the worst, followed by Kes and Kim. Poorly written, boring characters is one reason Voyager is my least favorite of the series.

Rom, just an annoying character who made any scene he was in that much more unbearable.

I have to agree. Could have been a good character but the acting was horrible. Actors playing lesser roles were 10 times better. I just went thought the seven seasons of DS9 in about 2 months. By the end I could not stand the way Rom was played. He started out playing Rom with a "duh" mentality and kept it up even after Rom became an engineer. Always the same reactions in business, love and communication. "Duh. I'm Rom. AAAaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!"

It got really old after a few seasons. I'm glad he was not chosen to play Quark.

For bad acting alone, I give it to Tasha Yar.

For annoying character, Pulaski.

For totally worthless, didn't get a chance to do anything, Mayweather.

Why did they have to make him such a little weirdo? And not an interesting little weirdo - that would have been fine (e.g. Nog). No, he was a dull weirdo. I didn't know weird could be so dull. And the thing is, it didn't have to be.

On DS9, the youngsters were in realistic *youngster* roles... no complaint there.

I have the same complaint with other TV portrayals of kid geniuses. Doogie Hauser (sp), anyone?? Wesley is basically Doogie in space, and both are completely dull characters.

It would have been a lot more interesting if Wesley ended up finding his niche among the crew after a few stories where he totally blew it with kids his own age. Then you have the conflict of someone who is not only all of 16, but is also socially immature for his age, while having a brain the size of... Wesley's brain.

Yes, there were hints of all of this with Wesley... but it boldly went... nowhere.

wesley and yar were my choices never really took to them, though saying that when nog first appeared i didnt think much of him but over a few episodes seemed ok

I voted for William Riker.

Some of the characters were poorly acted, like Tasha Yar or Wesley Crusher, but I see that as a failing of the actor or actress, or the writing, rather than the character being bad. Those character concepts were fine, they were just poorly executed.

Some of the characters I outright despise, like Captain Janeway and Seska. But again, I don't see that as making them bad characters. More like good characters who happen to irritate me.

But in the case of William Riker, the scene writing was okay, the acting was fine, but the character itself - someone whose job seems to be split between repeating what the captain just said and playing the trombone - kinda sucked. With a very few exceptions, he just seemed to me like an extra, unneeded character.

You're right. Riker was kind of pointless. The only reason he seemed to be there, was to be the more emotional counterbalance to a more logical, reasonable captain... but hell, Worf or someone else coulda done that.

I'm really surprised to see Pulaski as the overwhelming winner of this poll.

Pulaski was far from the worst-written main character.

Maybe if the question had been worded differently. She often ends up least popular, but of the TNG characters, I agree with those who feel she was an excellent addition, and a great female energy to counter Picard.

Truly it can be said that Troi and Wesley, and even Beverly, were less well-written than Pulaski. Great character idea.

Pulaski was my preferred doctor. She was well-written, and an interesting character - and she was realistic.

But IMO people don't like her because she wasn't the mold of TNG femininity - an overflowing nipple of motherly nurturance, and as an older woman, she wasn't enough of a MILF.

If the same character had been placed in a later series - she would have had a better reception... or maybe not.

I'm really surprised to see Pulaski as the overwhelming winner of this poll.

She's not. She's got 10 votes. Wesley Crusher is the overwhelming winner of the poll, with 40 votes. Pulaski is in 6th place, after Wesley, Kim, Neelix, Troi and Kes (Kim and Neelix are nowhere near Wesley, and Kes and Troi are far behind Kim & Neelix). And if any Enterprise characters were in the poll, I'm sure at least Mayweather would be in top 5.
