STS-128 Night Launch in HD

Yes, thank. It's nice to see it posted on YouTube. spaceflightnow.com has all the videos, but only for subscribers.

One thing I've been wondering, when the shuttles were new, the main tank was painted white. Was there less insulation loss then, more or the same? Or were they just not "aware" of the problem until Columbia? I think not painting it means less weight.

Good video. Maybe the last shuttle night launch we'll see, unless the launch manifest changes (and let's face it, it priobably will:p)

I think not painting it means less weight.

You're right. That's why they stopped painting the tank after STS-2. I don't think paint will have much of an effect on foam under the kinds of stresses that the ET is under at launch.

I wasn't sure if the paint also acted as some kind of insulation instead of the foam.

Just another case of something not being a "problem" until something blows up I guess.
