Holy !@#$, Disney buys Marvel Comics???

I don't read comics, can't stand them as I always think the stories are pathetically weak, but I do read the Marvel novel line which was licenced to/distributed by Pocket Books. Since Marvel didn't renew with Pocket, as I said about three pages back, is there a chance Disney will farm out the novel line to a third party or is what I have on my shelf likely to be it?

Nah, I'd prefer if Pixar stuck to original material. I have a feeling that the moment they start doing adaptations would be the moment that they'd lose what makes them unique. I'm already kind of worried about them focusing on several upcoming sequels.

Ditto. Pixar really does "get it" because as beautiful as their animation may be, the stories are what make them successful. That might be harder to come by given the constraints that an adaptation would bring.

SHIT! I guess this means will be seeing the marvel shows pulled off nick! Also it means the end of comics as we know them.

And Disney is not done yet. I heard rumors of them going after DC comics!

And who cares if a Marvel show is on Nick or ABC Family or Toon Disney. Same difference.

Different "standards and practices" restrictions". Like how Disney re-edited a lot of the 90s Spider Man shows when they re-aired them to "tame them down", not that they were that violent to begin with (no punching, etc).

Would a show like Wolverine and the X-Men make it in a Disney environment with it's more adult tone and writing? Would the DCAU have made it?

Or would we be back to stuff like the 70s "Superfriends"?

Disney is also looking forward to bringing several Marvel characters to the big screen that remain less known to the general public,

oh God please make an animated Generation X! talk about a neglected Marvel property!

I would imagine Marvel will take over the Disney comicbook licenses in a few years when the Boom! Studios contracts expire.

I could see that happening, but Disney may be so frikkin' huge that it may have no problems letting Boom! continue what it's doing alongside the House of M and keep them as separate properties...

Disney, as it turns out DID have the rights to 90s X-Men and never did anything with it despite YEARS of fan interest...

That would be interesting, considering the character will be in Iron Man 2. And she did become an Avenger years ago, the first time, with Daredevil back in the 1970s when they shared a comic book. -- RR

maybe this will be an adaptation of Ultimate Black Widow's UMTU appearance, where's she's operating as a rogue agent and is trying to steal secrets to sell to SHIELD to prove her worth, but using Stark/Iron Man in place of the Latverian Embassy and Spider-Man...

Well, I wouldn't want them to do it at the expense of their own material; I'd just like to see them expand.

Something animated along the lines of Little Mermaid or Hunchback? That would rock also. Marvel animation has never been any good. They could learn a lot from DC in that regard. New Frontier was amazing, as have been all those shows overseen by Bruce Timm. And the new Brave And The Bold really captures the Silver Age vibe. They've been on a roll for a while.

I think DC would have been a better fit with Disney, Superman would have been a perfect fit in the world of Peter Pan and other classic characters. Maybe when the creators of Superman get the rights back he could jump universes?

The thing I really want is a good Galactus story, maybe he will be one of the 5,000 characters Disney will develop.
