When you take a shower....

Do you stand outside and let the water temp get just right and then get in, or do you get in the shower and then turn the water on and adjust from there? I prefer the former, but was curious how much diversity there is in shower getting in approaches.

This is what passes for a Misc. thread now?

Yeah, I turn the water on and let it get to the right temp before I get in. I see no point scalding or freezing myself.

I turn on the water and get it the right temperature. In our apartment, this is a must if you don't want 1st degree burns, or possible hypothermia, depending upon what mood the water heaters are in.

I just don't switch it to shower mode before the water heats up. No need to actually stand outside the thing.

I stand outside, let the water temperature adjust to where it's comfortable, then get in. The method works especially well since water is included in the rent on the apartment.

I kinda want to try it the other way now! We have a shower where the water is controlled with one knob. So maybe I'll try to just get in and stand under the faucet and let her rip! See how long I can last until the temp gets right....

I get in, take the hand attachment (aftermarket, can't stand OEM shower nozzles) off the hook and aim it to the corner of the shower away from me, and turn on the water. I adjust to the correct temperature and then commence my ablution ritual. ;)

What the heck is wrong with you guys' water systems where the shower-water isn't almost instantly hot when you turn it on?

I turn on the water, feel the water out of the tub faucet if it feels good I turn on the shower head, get in, and then make a final adjustment.

No need to wait for the "water to heat up" or get to temp or anything like that.

I turn it on and get in.

^Your hot water heater must be very close to the bathroom. That isn't the case for everyone.

Well, I live in an apartment, the two are about five-feet from one another.

But even in my parent's house it didn't take the shower longer than a few moments to "warm up" and there the shower and water heater were seperated by many feet and a story.

"Hot water heater"? Why are you heating water if it's already hot? :p

I usually run the water while I'm brushing my teeth, then I get in, then I turn the knob to start the shower. I've never had a temperature issue unless they've turned the water heater in the basement off for maintenance (I live on the 12th floor).

I let the water run until it is the right temp.... but if I have just mowed the lawn or am hot and sweaty, then I jump in but on the 'outskirts' of the water.

I'm usually taking a dump before I shower first thing in the morning, so I will reach in and turn on the water just before I get up.

Ditto.

Nothing 'wrong' per se.

Your water heater may have a reservoir of water that's heated continuously. Other water heaters only heat water as required.

To answer the question: I take cold showers.

^ It can take up to 10 minutes for our water to get warm in our complex.

It only takes a few seconds for the water to warm up in my shower. On the other hand, it only lasts a few seconds. :rommie:
