the CHAIR

I've never heard this mentioned anywhere, either canon or non-canon, but in my mind the chairs are ergonomic, which subtlely shift position to prevent the user from cramping up when one's sitting there for a long time.

Otherwise, let's face it. THe basic design of the chair hasn't really changed much in the past few thousand years.

I always wanted one of those kneeling chairs; got one at a rummage sale but too small. They still make 'em apparently. Sposed to be good for your back.

I've never seen anything like that before!

Q's chair from All Good Things/Encounter at Farpoint was kind of badass.

No way! I watched Encounter again last night and was once again reminded how that 'chair' Q comes flying out on looked like a costumed
cameraman's chair that they fly around on. I thought that 'effect' was so goofy looking. Just mho, of course.

I think all female crew should be at their posts, standing at all times, facing away from the camera, and always in short mini-skirts. Just my preference, but, there it is.

NO CHAIRS!!!

I sat in the recreation of Kirk's chair in Detroit, by the way. Padded, yes, but not overly much. If I were cap'n, I'd walk around and give someone the conn most of the time.

"The technology of chairs"? What does that even mean? A chair is, by definition, one of the least technological objects ever invented. It's not SUPPOSED to have technology (unless you're talking wheelchairs, and even then there's only so much you can do with those as well).

It would be a monumentally stupid idea, IMHO, to have chairs be holographic. Anything that depends on a constant source of power is just begging for trouble.

This is the ubiquitous Emeco 1006, the "Navy chair" which has been in production since 1944. It's manufacture has used the same 77 step process in all that time. Six decades old and it still represents superb engineering on the furniture front. This and other old designs are still fashionable because they work and they are comfortable. The chair is one of the few things that new technologies cannot contribute any substantial benefit. Holographic chair or some anti-gravity nonsense would just be overthinking the "solution" to a problem that was solved over a millenia ago.

That chair is chair-dom's greatest masterpiece. I've wanted to get one for ages.

Since I work for the navy, I will tell this now..THOSE CHAIRS are still in use. And I hate the mid 'ridge' because of its, well, bad positioning. When ever i was on cruise I made sure i did NOT get stuck with one...

What can I say? I like the way you think!
