NFL Football 2009

It looks like the draft class this year for the Texans is pretty good. Even without our 1st draft choice in Brian Cushing, our defense looks better. Ofcourse it was against the the Chiefs, and it's the first pre-season game for both of them, but still.

Rex Grossman looked like crap as our 3rd string QB. He also hurt his whittle hammy so I'm not even sure he makes the final cut. Dan Orlovsky (the QB from Detroit that ran out of the backfield last year! LOL) is our 2nd string QB and didn't look to bad, not great, but OK as a backup. He'll get better learning under Kubiac who is really good with QBs.

I'm OK with the Texans so far, I think they'll be a better team this year than last year. The whole deal with the Texans is when/if they can compete in the AFC south with Indy and the Titans. When they can do that, they'll be legit.

The Lions won yesterday! A preseason game yes, but it's been awhile since the Lions have had more points than the other team at the end of the fourth quarter...

Sadly, Bulger looks the same as he has the past two seasons. Slow, indecisive. Boller actually looked better.

Ooh, yeah, you have fun with that. Watch, whenever he throws off his back foot (like 70% of the time) he throws it right to a guy in the other jersey. Every throw is a crap shoot. I still suffer from Post Boller Traumatic Stress Syndrome myself. It's a debilitating illness that causes one to cringe whenever a QB drops back and looks downfield.

You just described Bulger's last four seasons (19-45).

This is why I wanted the Rams to draft Sanchez.

:scream:

Seriously speaking, Orton is a very competent quarterback who can hit near- and mid-routes like no other. He can also drink Jack Daniels like there's no tomorrow.
I thought Cutler was the one who likes the bottle?

Orton is just a jello-armed chump. He's never going anywhere without a great running game and defense.

Cutler has the physical skills, but I'm not completely convinced he has the mental makeup of a good NFL QB. Jake Utler? I like that, I think I'll use it myself.

T-Jack and Rosenfels provide barrels of laughs to Vikings haters like myself.

I'm not going to pay any attention to Detroit until they actually win another real NFL game. Needless to say Stafford really has the deck stacked against him. Rarely do things go well for #1 QB picks on atrocious teams if they're thrown to the wolves week 1 of their NFL career. I guess I don't know if they plan to throw him out there or bring him along slowly with Culpepper taking the starts, either way it's an uphill battle for Detroit this year.

The Packers looked good against the Browns. Rodgers was very sharp, James Jones and Jermichael Finley looked like players ready to contribute this year. The offenseive line was actually blocking decently, the running backs were all successful. The new 3-4 defense pitched a shutout. Granted it's all vanilla packages against the woeful Cleveland Browns, but the Pack looked all around good.

Because I'm blindly devoted, I proclaim that Jay Cutler is my God and Matt Forte the bringer of His message, but I'm not terribly enthused by him throwing his primary target last night under the bus:

Jay Cutler said:
"Devin is more of a go-get it guy, he is not really a back-shoulder or jump-up-and-get-it [guy]. You learn from it. We made some mistakes. It's the first preseason game. Luckily enough, we have some time to correct them and keep going."

Well, between the HOF game with Kerry Collins' looking sharp and Vince Young looking... rusty, and last night's game with Collins' looking... rough, at best, and Young looking fairly decent, I'm not sure what to think. Well, other than Javon Ringer and Kenny Britt were good picks, and I'm good and confident about our defense and running game. Those are what really matter anyway :bolian: The QB situation will work itself out, and Collins' game last night was just one of those things that happens.

Laying aside the quarterback joy in Chicago, how does the Bears pass D allow Buffalo to go 23/26 for 220-ish yards between first and second teams? :wtf: Sure, it's only preseason, but still...

Obviously, Collins is drinking again.

Barring injury, I doubt he ever starts again. Simms looked great and don't think it was a fluke. He's shown signs before; he was just never in the right situation.

Agreed. I've suggested several times that his stats last season were seriously padded. He has huge games against Oakland, San Diego, and Kansas City (all terrible defenses) but whenever the going gets tough, he folds.

Rosenfels provide barrels of laughs to Vikings haters like myself.
So you find humor in 10 for 13 and 91 yards? Fascinating.

The Packers looked good against the Browns.
That's where I stopped reading.

I think when it's all said and done, Olsen will be his go-to guy.

Yup. Ask any Bears fan and they've all ready won the division. No need to play the season. Yet the defense is going to be the death of them. Lions, Pack, and Vikes are all going to have better offenses this year.

Urlacher, Brown, and Ogunleye have all lost a step and are in danger of washing-up. Vasher and McBride can be a bit inconsistent from time to time. And, other than Briggs, the rest of the defense is mediocre at best.

Unfortunately, that isn't the case yet. If you look at the article I posted upstream, McDaniels has stated that he is standing by Orton. Which pisses me off to know end, but hey- what do I know? It's not like I watched the same game that the coaching staff apparently did.

Just think on opening day we could conceivably best our previous season's record.

Yes indeed. The Lions could finally snap that 17 game losing streak, and get an actual, honest to goodness win. Hard to believe isn't it?

Clegg, I have had precious little to cheer for in Buffalo for 10 years. As opposed to saying Chicago's D is losing a step, could you humor me and say that Buffalo's new no-huddle offense looked surprisingly effective against the Chicago starters? We need all the moral victories we can get up here.

I'm just going to go ahead and be cruel and remind you that Buffalo was playing with its no-huddle offense while Chicago was playing its vanilla defense, with little to no blitzing, complicated schemes, etc., which has been par for the course for the Bears during Lovie Smith's reign (he doesn't like using regular-season gameplans during the pre-season, reasoning that it gives opponents extra footage from which to learn).

In any event, the first-string defense held Buffalo to three points. :)

Damn you. I'm just gonna take what's left of my team pride and go over into the corner.

In all seriousness though, I am not looking forward to this season as a Bills fan. I do think we had a good "infrastructure" draft, but I just don't think it's going to be enough in the AFC East. Defensively, if our 1st round pick Maybin actually signs and is productive on the pass rush, I think our Defense will surprise a lot of people. I do think we can be a top 10-15 D.

However, I don't care how good our Special Teams, Receivers and RB's are. We have the worst game-day coach in the NFL, our QB is a middle-of-the-road talent, and our O-Line is young and/or inexperienced at all positions. Can't get the ball to T.O. if you don't have 3 seconds to throw it.

I say Buffalo tops out at 5 wins. I'd love to be wrong... but I really doubt it.
