Has anyone used the patterns from Roddenberry.com?

I am hoping to sew myself a uniform for Halloween this year, and I want it to fit nicely and look authentic. There are uniform patterns for sale at Roddenberry.com that claim to be the actual patterns used for the show. This seems to be the best way to make something that looks authentic, but I am pretty picky about sewing patterns and usually end up just having to make one up if i want things to fit right.

I am looking at "TOS Starfleet Officer Duty Uniform Female Skant" and would like to know if anyone has used this or any of the other patterns, and how they turned out.

Hi saxarocks,

I used the pattern from Roddenberry.com for the uniform I just wore to the Vegas Con this year. It sounds like I had a similar goal as you--going for an authentic, screen accurate look that fit well. Overall, I ended up using the Roddenberry pattern as a base, but had to make some pretty major adjustments to make it fit properly.

The pattern seems to run very small and some of the fit issues were weird. I'd recommend doing a mock-up first if you use this pattern, as I had to end up using different sizes of different pattern pieces. I wasn't happy with some of the finishing instructions (specifically for the pleats and collar) and also ended up doing a partial lining.

The instructions were relatively easy to follow and clear, so that was a plus. I found that the pattern info called for more fabric than was needed (only used 2.5 yards rather than the 4 stated).

Here's a picture of my finished uniform...

(It's not the best picture of me...not sure why I look vaguely annoyed, probably too much Romulan ale ;) , but a decent pic of the whole outfit)

I got many positive comments from people during the convention, and overall was pleased with how the project turned out.

Feel free to email me if you have any specific questions. :)

thanks, yours looks awesome.

I think that I should probably get the pattern and make adjustments as I go. I usually have to do that because I have a strange shape so it is to be expected. my research has turned up only one concern, and that is the invisible zipper. I think it may require a special foot.

softfocus, that uniform looks great on you! Well done!

If you lived closer, I'd hire you to make me a uniform.

Very nice uniform shot ;)

I'm told the Roddenbury patterns are quite good - though I haven't tackled them yet. They're my next project.

Be sure to show us how it turns out, Saxarocks.
