On the domestic front, Star Trek held steady at the #5 position, as pretty much everyone knew it would; it doesn't look to be facing any major competition in the near future, so it should stay in that spot for a good while.

Worldwide, Star Trek slipped into the #7 position, being surpassed, as it already had on the domestic list, by The Hangover. Pixar's Up also continues to climb the chart; now that it is opening in new markets fairly regularly, I wouldn't be surprised to see it make its way into the Top 5 in the coming weeks.

If anyone's curious about the figures for this weekend's major release, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, here they are:

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra
Domestic: $54,713,046 / 56.0%
+ Foreign: $43,035,972 / 44.0%
= Worldwide: $97,749,018

Pretty solid debut, especially for an August release (4th-highest ever in the month, actually), but nowhere near Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen numbers. Not as good as Trek's opening weekend either. Anyway, I expect it'll be on both these lists next week.

Oh yes, and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince should soon overtake Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen's title as the highest-grossing film worldwide of 2009. I'm glad to see that -- if Transformers: ROTF emerged as the global box office champ for the year, I would have wept for our species. :p

Yeah, I would say G.I. Joe's opening was really good considering it was an August opening. Only three months do worse business than August, with the biggest opening for August at only $69 million for The Bourne Ultimatum. In fact the three films with bigger opening were all films with a more established feature film fanbases (Bourne, Rush Hour, and Signs when Shyamalan didn't create crap).

By this stage in the releases of both INS and NEM I think both films had dropped out of the top 100 and were only able to be seen in small Mongolian villages near the Siberian frontier.

Better than a week ago! I know, more theaters, even though discount. Wonder if there will be a drop in theater count this week?

The fact that these theaters are half or less the price of a regular theater has to be taken into account, I'd imagine.

Chug along to 260!

It probably will lose theaters this weekend as more first-run theaters drop it.

Looks like the predictions of it topping out around $257 million when all's said and done are probably going to become reality. I can see another $1.4 million or so being squeezed outta the movie before she's yanked from all the remaining theaters.

And up 30.2% from last Tuesday. Not bad. Per screen average ($201) is a little lower, but given that most cinemas showing the film now are probably discount theatres, that's pretty much to be expected. Actually, per screen averages are roughly the same as they were a month ago, before Trek experienced a nice little surge last week and at the end of July.

Domestic total: $255,471,687.

And with 15 minutes to go before e-ticketing closed, it was Star Trek 25, Transformers 11 for the respective IMAX showings.

If Star Trek can just be more front-loaded the next time, and exhibit the same legs, we're talking 350 million domestic, I think.

350+ domestic is where part 2 will end up if the quality matches the first one

I agree 350 Domestic is possible, but it needs to be just as good, reviews were extremely key in STXI doing so well.

$69,509 for Wednesday the 12th. Down 8% from Tuesday, but up 22.6% from last Wednesday (virtually every movie experienced a drop from Tuesday anyway). Per screen average was $185.

Domestic total: $255,541,196.
