Watched My First Classic Who

The rapport between The Doctor and Romana II can't be matched IMO, those serials were his best.

I never cared for Romana II for some reason, maybe it's just the actress. Romana I was definitely my favorite Companion of all time. Leela was good too for the exact opposite reasons.

Personally speaking Romana II makes those seasons worth watching. Otherwise it'd be meh, what with Tom Baker at his most zanyness. Heck, I'd be happy if Romana II was the lead during that time, the character was more then capable. :)

The second Romana is one of my favorite companions, but Season 17 is one of my least favorites. Odd...

Granted I haven't seen any Romana II episodes in about ten years but I remember being aloof, cold, haughty, etc, etc, whereas Romana I was a stuck-up know-it-all but had a sense of humor and delighted in one-upping the Doctor.

The first Romana is my favorite of all of the companions of any Doctor. Season 17's "City of Death" is my favorite episode of any Doctor.

I think that largely depends on who she interacts with. Romana II, more so then most companions, had a tendency to be put into positions where she was having a one-one with the villain and on those occasions she was definitely cold, aloof and haughty. When dealing with the more average characters (except Duggan) she was only as aloof as the Doctor was (which may be part of the problem).

Personally speaking and totally off topic, if they were to bring the character back regenerated, I'd hope they'd do it in a similar way they did with doc10 (in the "life and soul of the party" way).

Romana II was definitely the thinking man's cumpet. I though Romana I was the better companion, though Tom's best was Leela by far.

Prefer Romana I for the reasons listed above. Love Leela like family, as she was my second companion.

Women I'd want to play Romana now? Where to begin? There's so many good actresses all over the world. And, for Romana, I would not limit it to British actresses. I see no reason an excellent American actress couldn't take the part.

Here are some pics I had chosen in a previous discussion about future Romana's. I chose each picture based on the kind of personality I saw each of them imbuing into the character...

(l.to r.) Claudia Black, Cate Blanchette,
Toni Collette, Rachel Weiz,
Zooey Deschanel

I hope that was a typo you and meant "crumpet". Because "cumpet" just sounds... hmm... actually...

claudia black? fuck no.

cate blanchette? only if you want to use the character once. too expensive.

toni collette? meh.

Rachel Weisz? same as Cate.

Zooey? meh.

I wasn't going to say anything, but since you quoted him ... It's funny that he talks about having an American actress in the part, and then lists five actresses - only one of them being an American.:lol::lol:

Now, about Rachel ... I don't know if she would be "too expensive" and the reason I say that is, I've read interviews with her, where she talks about being a Doctor Who fan. It's entirely possible she would be happy to be a recurring actress on the show, maybe even a regular, for scale, just so she could be in it.

After all, whoever thought Whoopi Goldberg would ever be on some silly science fiction show? At the time, she was an Oscar-winning A-lister.

Anything is possible.

All he said was that he wouldn't limit it to British actresses... which he didn't. Hardly inconsistent.

Didn't say it was. What I said was, it's funny. Cuz it is! :guffaw:

*Suddenly alert*

Did someone say Kate Winslet? Huh? Did they? Huh?

ITL, quite obviously fancies The Winslet.

Yes, it's littered with typos. I don't know what I was drinking at the time. I'll try again:
