Star Trek : Nero comic preview

After enjoying COUNTDOWN as much as I did, I'm gonna have to check this out!:techman: I wonder how much the new Nero comics will refer back to COUNTDOWN, if at all.

Well, I believe the same team that wrote Countdown will be writing this as well so perhaps there will be references.

Can a comic like this be had at a regular bookstore? I got the trade paperback at one.

It comes out next week I believe and is set during the events of the movie.

Fascinating, isn't it?

I read Countdown before seeing the Movie. My wife did not. Our perceptions of the movie and our understanding of the movie were very different. It made more sense to her when I filled her in on plot of Countdown.

The Movie may stand alone, but fans who read Countdown get more out of the Movie -- it makes more sense. I suspect when we read this NERO Comic books series, the same thing will happen. The Movie will make even more sense.

And when the Movie Comic comes out, maybe we'll actually love this new Movie! Don't get me wrong . . . I did like the Movie, a lot. But the downside to making it an Action movie was that a lot of the important background, character development and Trek science were left out. Now we have to read three series of comic books to finally get the full Trek experience from the Movie. Wow!

looking at the preview pages Im guessing this is set between the start of the movie, and when Kirk enters the academy.

As I recall, the individual issues of the Countdown comic tended to be available mostly at comic shops, though I think there were a few exceptions noted. Since those sold out pretty rapidly, it's possible that this one could be more widely available, but I'd guess it would still depend on the bookstore. If there's a trade paperback collecting the issues (don't know if one has been announced yet) I'd think that you should be able to find it at the same store where you picked up the last one.

This looks good i love anything 2 do with Nero i read a snippet that they use captain robau body after nero had killed him as food !!! ( Nice guy Nero not !!!! )

Yeah...I was afraid of that. We have a comics store not too far away; but when I went in there a couple weeks before the movie, he didn't have Countdown, so we went to the bookstore. I guess I'll drop in and ask again or order it online.

The new comics make Nero far more interesting and three-dimensional than the movie alone ever could. For a while, I was afraid he'd end up being thinner and more disappointing than Shinzon was almost seven years ago...but with the graphic novel backstory he doesn't seem so one-dimensional and loony.

You might be able to get them to set aside a copy for you; I remember several people doing that with the individual Countdown issues. Or yeah, it looks like you can pre-order the trade collection volume from Amazon in paperback or hard cover. I see there are copies of Issue #1 available, too.

Thanks for the info. It looks beautiful!
It DOES look beautiful; Nero looks good on the cover.

Hey, thanks! So, there definitely will be a trade paperback? I'd rather have that.

There's never a "definitely" in publishing, but IDW's usual plan is to release a trade omnibus one month after the completion of each mini-series. The only exception was a shorter Romulan mini-series, where they decided to delay the trade until John Byrne wrote another short Romulan mini-series to keep the total length of the proposed trade more consistent with previous IDW ST trades.

Unfortunately, this business plan curbs the number of readers who support the individual issues. The comic shops know this, and cut their orders as fine as possible, because they have little chance of selling leftover individual issues of a mini-series once the trade is out (and some individual issues are out-of-print).
