What did Wise REALLY want for a TMP Director's Cut?

Did Wise really have a beef with the orginal sound fx?

I much preferred the severe "Emergency Alert. Negative Control at Helm!"

Intruder Alert! Intruder Alert! Intruder Alert! Intruder Alert! Intruder Alert! Intruder Alert! Intruder Alert! Intruder Alert! Intruder Alert! Intruder Alert!

Make.....it......stop.......

YES - the audio is a much bigger improvement than the fx or pacing (which seems little changed, frankly). The original audio fx were awful. Good job, Mr. Wise or whoever.

Yes, that is why they were used in TWOK, TSFS, and TFF.

it was used in the excelsior turbolift
In ST III? The voice talking to Scotty?

That was Leonard Nimoy, using the same actor name used to play "Nacluv" ("Vulcan", spelled backwards) in all the adult Spock scenes in the ST III call sheets: Frank Force.

(Spock being the frankest force in the universe.)

Yup. It was used in the simulator in TWOK, it was used in the excelsior turbolift, it was used on the bridge in TFF (RRRRRRREeeeeed Aaaallllleeeeeerrrrt. Re RE RE RE REd Alert. Scotty: I just fixed that damn thing, turn it off would ya)

And the difference between TMP computer voice and the rest is?

I liked the computer voice in TMP.

To the immense annoyance of my long-suffering wife, whenever I get a head cold, I stumble through the house saying, "Emergency alert. Negative control at helm." "Malfunction ... malfunction ... malfunction ...." comes up a lot, too. And she still hasn't figured out what I'm quoting.

Did anyone else notice that "Cleary" (presumably another engineer both Scotty and Uhura talked to) had the same voice?

Except that Cleary was played by Michael Rougas and the original TMP computer voice (pre DE) was supplied by Doug Hale.

Regarding the Kirk/Scotty fly around, at the time Wise was saying it was too long he had no way of knowing the scene would be reused but trimmed for Star Trek II.

I liked the annoying computer voice since it added more of a unique identity to the ship for that film.

I generally like the DC but I do not like what they did with the shuttle bay at Starfleet Command or the freaking dumb ass single nacelle through the window.

The V'Gr fly through is still way too long.

And he was also pretty clearly dubbed.
As in dubbed by another actor, or looped his own lines? There are lines where Khan is very clearly and obviously looped in post: "To amuse your captain, no?" being the worst offender.

I think he was dubbed by Doug Hale. Much the same way that Stephen Collins can be seen speaking with a woman's voice later in the Extended Edition.

EDIT TO ADD:
Okay, I've just popped the DE DVD in and rewatched the Engineering scenes a few times. Cleary's voice is very obviously looped at least and possibly dubbed by another actor, although the match to the computer isn't perfect. The voices are similar, though, with the computer's being a bit deeper and modulated. Scotty, Decker, and even Kirk are also looped heavily in this scene, so something, possibly the lighting mechanism on the reactor, must have made a lot of noise.

Did we see Cleary again after the destruction of Epsilon 9? I think the man was part of the crew that needed replacements.

There seemed to be a good deal of obvious looping in TMP. Probably a lot of mechanical noise in the background, but it wasn't as bad in later films.

As for the Khan looping mentioned : "To amuse your captain, no?" Right after Khan finishes his next line, Terrell says "I never even met Admiral Kirk." I wonder if Khan's "aumse" line was originally something else since Terrell's line seems out of place. It didn't matter if he had met Kirk or not, it was supposed to be about Chekov telling Terrell about finding Khan.

if you're talking about the abortion that is the SLV, you shouldn't. That thing's an editorial disaster cobbled together to fill out a 3 hour time slot (with commercials).

I don't see how you can draw the conclusion that he's possibly dubbed by another actor unless you know what the actor actually sounds like.

In at least one draft of the script the line is slightly different, but close:

KHAN
...Do you mean he never told you the tale?
To amuse you, Captain? Never told
you how the Enterprise picked up the
Botany Bay...

It's really quite easy. The two voices sound similar.
