Things you wouldn't like to see return for a sequel

Exiling people for accidents ( Archer became that big of a douche' simply because of a dog?! ) or arugments.

Oh, and star destroyer sized starships.

I'll agree that we don't need to see it again, but assigning someone to an undesirable post as punishment for fucking up is an old corporate and even older military tradition, and I thought it credible enough the one time. Besides, it was never said that Archer ordered it personally; that's more the sort of action a middle-management / middle-echelon officer in Personnel would be responsible for handling. (Admiral-Emeritus) Archer may not have been aware of it at all until after the fact, if even then.

Oh, I agree, the new Enterprise is big enough. Perhaps add a hundred meters or so, but certainly not more.

Hero ships, I agree. But enemy ships? I say go crazy :)

In addition to the Narada, we have:
-the D'Deridex Warbird
-the Fesarius vessel (not an enemy, I know)
-the Borg Cube
-the Voth Ship
-the Dominion super battleship
-etc. etc.

And they tend to work visually when compared to our humble, plucky space heroes.

No more 'bumpy headed aliens'. Let's see some weird and wonderful life forms - creatures that glow via bioluminescence, big fat round life forms filled with hydrogen that float around on wind currents... and some truly alien landscapes. In the spirit of the glowing alien, why not a landscape covered with a moss that glows? Maybe covering a mountain, glowing a soft green at night? I dunno, something weirder and wilder than 'desert planet', 'ice planet', etc. Special effects have been a limitation in the past, but no longer...

Yes!!!!:techman:

Enuff with the Klingons already.

Personally, I'm going to say Scotty's sidekick, should have him sucked out into space at the beginning of the new movie...:rommie:

The ugly Enterprise with it's brewery-like engineering, the Spock/Uhura relationship, Chekov and his poor Russian accent, lens flares, the ridiculous writing, time travel, over the top "science" ie. transporting ridiculous distances, etc.

After viewing the trailers, I thought it had potential. However, the movie turned out to be a mindless action flick which required one's brain to be left at the door.

It was successful in re-starting the franchise but I have serious doubts about the sequel since the same writing hacks are returning. Time will only tell if they have the sense to create an original storyline that is logical and not totally stupid.

We can thank Abrams for the ridiculous amount of lens flares, super close-ups of the actor's pores, shaky camera work, poor choices for the Enterprise, engineering, etc. If he doesn't direct, then that would be fine with me.

Get Jim Henson Studios on this bitch! As they expand the new universe, I would want the Orions, the Vulcans, the Romulans and yes, even the Kilgons to be a minority in their humanoid appearance. I really adore out there looking alien creatures ever since I was a little-un. I cannot relate how depressed I was as a child when I realized the boar-looking guards in Jabba's Palace from Return of The Jedi weren't real. "Okay, Jabba's fake. The little spider monkey thing is a puppet like on Sesame Street-- but the Pig faced guard, too? Nooo!"

I agree, but not every one. Make them more differing in size, and differing in appearance and technology as well. I always found it strange nearly everybody has the same type of technological elements. Make things really exotic, strange or even completely unlogical (to us).

I'm very pleased with the resurregence of the ST franchise, but at what cost? Dumbing it down for the masses? People love one dimensional villains, action, explosions, carnage, etc. and that's what we'll probably get in the sequel.

Hmm..and what about the Star Trek masses ?
They seem to totally disagree too with you about this supposed "dumbing down"

Yeah, I realize that. I just don't understand what people see in the storyline, as I feel it's very poorly written. I'm hoping that the sequel will be much better.

However, it's been 7 years since Nemesis, and ST fans would have accepted Homer Simpson playing Kirk just to get another movie.

Ah, so your saying the general audience is a bunch of flaming idots and the Trek fans that like it are so starved for Trek they'll eat anything up if it has Star Trek as or in the tittle.

I think Trek fans have been waiting a long time to see another feature film and would support it and accentuate the positives, regardless of the quality of the storyline.

The general public wants non-stop action, explosions, battles, fight scenes, etc. Most of the top grossing movies fit the criteria.

For example, Independence Day had a mac computer interfacing with alien technology (among other stupid things) and yet look how much money it made at the box office.

People don't care how stupid the story is as long as it has action and cool explosions.

We basically got that in all of Star Trek too.

Time will only tell if they have the sense to create an original storyline that is logical and not totally stupid.

That would be a rarity in Star Trek.

Hmm, I didn't have to do any of that, sorry if you felt the need to. Perhaps it is this attitude that led to many of the complainers seemingly needing many things explained to them about this movie even when it was blatent!

So are you just wanting to tell us that Trek fans are mindless and are blind sheep?

No, just forgiving. The general public may be described like that.

I'm making these comments as a ST fan myself, as I've watched practically every episode of each series and all the movies. Although I'm happy that the ST franchise has been revived, I'm just disappointed with this movie.

The general public that is necessary for Trek to be a success commercially.
