Iron Man 2 News from Comic-Con

There is a still around that shows Tony in his lab working in front of a computer and the various armors behind him in the Hall of Amour. I think there was a statement from Faveuru a while ago that the Mandarin would indeed be returned to in Iron Man 3. I'll post the comment if I can find it.

The Hall of Armor

Let's look at the the changes made for the 2010 model year ;):
  • Beefier arms and shoulders
  • New stomach design
  • New hips and thigh design
  • New chestplate design (as evidenced by on-set photos, such as the one of RDJ sitting in the donutshop's donut)
  • New gloves

Most of those changes look like proportional, dexterity, or cosmetic changes. For example, the new arms balance out the physical proportions, where as the arms of the Mark III always had a stubby quality to them. The new thigh, stomach, and hip area are more and more visibly segmented, for easier movement between the plates. The chest repulsor looks moved up in relation to the chestplate, so it finally sits above the actual location of Tony's chest reactor (the Mark III's was a bit too low in comparison, though they fudged it together in the suit-up sequences at his house.)

As for why the Mark I is suddenly put back together, it is Tony Stark, afterall, and he apparently had digitized plans of the suit on hand when he was rescued, even though he had what looked like a '90s laptop (with DOS :guffaw:) when he built it with Yinsen. It's not as it all the pieces weren't in the box to begin with (even though they shouldn't be there.)

Is it just me or does it resemble his Extrermis armor more than the Mark III did? I'm loving that Hall of Armor pic though.

Also as Anwar points out, in Ultimates Ross is indeed a member of SHEILD but Ross in IC appears to not know who Stark is referring to when he says "We".

Except Ross was using SHEILD to track Banner in The Incredible Hulk. So he would kind of have to know who SHEILD is.

He was using SHIELD and Stark Industries to battle Banner, but he likely didn't know about the Avengers Initiative.

Oh I thought Admiral_Young was saying Ross didn't know what SHEILD was.

I feel they missed an opportunity in Incredible Hulk by not making Blonsky a HYDRA double agent (instead of KGB) who feels under-appreciated due to his aging state. So he plays this up to get Ross to inject him with the Super-Soldier serum thus becoming powerful and having a valuable commodity to bring back to HYDRA. Then he goes and becomes Abomination which puts a spanner in HYDRA's plans.

I though Blonsky was a member of the Royal Marines on loan to the US, plus being a member of the KGB was a part of Blonsky's backstory in the comics.

I can't see how. The Extremis design was incredibly sleek, and a bit too fantastic to actually build and wear for a movie ATM.

not sure about RM, but he's definitely on some kind of extended loan from Britain.

WAR MACHINE, black and silver and slightly bulkier than the IRON MAN suit, in action. The mini-gun is mounted on his shoulder, twisting and firing as War Machine’s arms are out. Instead of repulsor rays, bullets come streaming out of his arms, spewing spent casings as hundreds of rounds are shot off at once.

Now lets look back at the concept art from the first movie

Oh, I know. What I meant was that he was actually a Hydra double agent all along placed in the Royal Marines, then when Hydra heard about Ross and Hulk they arranged for Blonsky to be put on Ross' team to get info on what was happening.

This requires a rewrite though, I only included the HYDRA stuff because I thought it would fit in better with SHIELD's existence and the greater MU.

^;)

The archer, of course.

And I just discovered that Kate Mara from Zoom (A Tim Allen super-hero flick from 2006) will be playing Bethany Cabe in IM2.

The hot red-head factor for this flick just went up yet again.

One thing that hasn't changed--the suit gives Stark an extra 4 or 5 inches in height. ;)

I'm liking how they've updated Whiplash from the rather silly character he was in the original comics. It looks as if they're adapting the "Armor Wars" plotline where Iron Man was obssessed with getting back his stolen armor technology. I also hope Black Widow will be some kind of industrial spy. Would love to see Crimson Dynamo, the Blizzard, or the Unicorn in upcoming Iron Man flicks. -- RR
