I think having Garth or maybe a re-imagined Kor as the villains of the next Trek film would be nice.

I like this idea because I think if they're going to be influenced by "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan" at all in making the next movie, I think they should only be influenced by the process that went into conceiving the idea for that movie. Specifically, the producers watching old episodes of Star Trek to come up with an idea of what character/story would be ideal to re-visit for a big screen adaptation of the series.

I wouldn't necessarily choose those two Anwar mentioned (or Khan), but I think it would be smart to find a character and/or plot line that could be nicely re-worked (while still retaining what made it great in the first place) for a new 21st century big screen adventure.

He doesnt really look an Arab, which Sayid is meant to be in Lost. But I guess a lot of people in the States don't really know the difference between India and the Middle East, whereas Indians are more prominent in the UK's culture and history.

He doesn't look Arab at all, which bothered me at first, but then I got over it because he's so great in the role that I wouldn't want to see anyone else as Sayid. I loved it when they finally recognized it, though, as a little inside joke in season 5 when Hurley's mom asked: "Why is there a dead Pakistani on my couch?"

Yeah, but why get a Spanish actor, when you can have an Indian guy who is more than capable of pulling off the role?

Then again, if not for Lost, next to nobody would be suggesting Naveen Andrews, so there you go.

Just relax guys. You shouldn't consider the Abram Star Trek as the new canon. Just see it as an entertainment and you'll able to enjoy it more. Comparing the new movie with the old will only cut your enjoyment. Relating the new movie with the established Star Trek won't work. Just leave the old movies and their respective canon behind and enjoy the new. But if you can't, why not considering make fan's production version of Star Trek for Trekkies?

I haven't seen Bardem in action, so I can't comment, but I've thought for a while now that Andrews would make a great Khan. Plus, he's on J.J.'s payroll already, so I'm sure his name will pop up if Khan ever gets serious considration.

Sure, he's technically too dark-skinned to be an average Iraqi, but there are people of black African ancestry in Iraq who are darker skinned than him, so if anyone has issues, just envision him having one of those guys in his family tree and it's all good. There are what, 23 million people in Iraq? How the heck can anyone say with any authority that one guy looks "wrong" among such a huge number of people?

Sure, he's technically too dark-skinned to be an average Iraqi, but there are people of black African ancestry in Iraq who are darker skinned than him, so if anyone has issues, just envision him having one of those guys in his family tree and it's all good. I'd rather imagine that someone in his family was from Pakistan, since he looks absolutely nothing like an African. It's not just the dark skin, he has very recognizably South Asian features, more than any other actor of Indian origin I can think of.

Yeah - Naveen Andrews looks very Indian in terms of facial features. Arabs look quite different, generally speaking.

In cultural terms, India seems closer to East Asia than the Middle East - in terms of diet, flora and fauna, religion, climate, etc -India resembles places like Burma, Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia and Indonesia.
