I honestly don't know who is single or not and I've learned to avoid making any kind of advance until I know what the relationship status. I've had the worst luck with this. Hell, the last girl I took out to dinner I found out afterwards that she already had a boyfriend.

TINY TUESDAY UPDATE

Girls

auntiehill

Hi! Checking in while sitting in the airport. Should be home tonight.

Imagine my surprise to see my name on the list! :wtf:

I've never had anyone, other than my husband, express a crush on me.
I'm flattered. Shocked and stunned, but flattered.

I can relate. I have always, for reasons that I have yet to explain, been attracted to straight guys. This has gotten me into more trouble over the years so I tend to hold back until I can get them sorted into "touch" and "don't touch" categories.

I've never understood the phobia straight men have about that. Let's say you're into me. Now I'm a straight guy but I'd be really flattered if you told me something like that and I don't get why other guys wouldn't be.

Yeah, I've had gay guys give me compliments before. Probably the only thing that saved my ego.

I don't get it either. Most of the guys I know get weirded out as if they're less masculine for attracting men where I'll chat away regardless.

Considering I'm not really the type that most gay men in Glasgow go for I consider it quite the compliment.

A lot of straight guys for some reason are "threatened" by advances from gay guys. I'm not exactly sure why. I personally have not tried this unless I know the other person harbors some attraction or interest.

It has a lot to do with homophobia. Those guys threatened by being hit on by someone who is gay are probably afraid of being the object of jokes by other guys or looked down on by their friends. It's sad that many guys are so afraid of this that they become paranoid. Never underestimate the power of guys to be assholes too each other.

It could also be that those straight guys are not so sure about their own sexuality, and they are afraid that they could be attracted to another guy.

As a straight guy, I find it flattering to be hit on be anyone. :)

Actually I am less worried about getting my ass kicked. (I can hold my own if needed.) I am just tired of getting emotionally attached to someone who can never truly love me back. You can only take having that happen so many times before you start to be very cautious and conscious of your attractions. I will even avoid being friends with men I know I could possibly become emotionally involved with. It keeps things from becoming messy later.

I think you're being too hard on yourself, and you're such a cool guy. :) I can only speak for myself, but I waste no time pining for someone (male/female) who I know will never reciprocate my amorous feelings. Yes, the opposite might have been the case when I was younger and only dated young ladies, but not anymore.

On the other hand, why try to avoid being friends with someone you like on a personal level (even if you know it's not going to work out romantically)? Isn't friendship something worth having with someone your like and respect? Also, when you feel a certain attraction to someone, you can pretty much gauge your feelings as just infatuation/crush or something deeper than that.

Well this is just for fun after all....or else I'd really be upset that my name wasn't on the list.

The same thing has happened to me quite a few times. Yes, yes yes....quite a few. I ask them flat out...you have a GF or whateva...and then the lies commence. WHY? Why waste both of our time? I'd like to hear the various motives from the men on this board...I know plenty of you are cheating. Actually feel free to submit any motives to dear Holdfasts wonderfully sordid confession thread if you want it to be on the down low.

A lot of men don't even want women sniffin around there let alone a man.
It has I'd say almost 100% to do with homophobia.

I had gotten to know this girl a few months back and really grew to like her so after knowing her for a while I asked her out and she said yes. Turns out she had a boyfriend. It hurt like all hell and I don't understand why someone would do something like that.
