Where are you in the Trek Universe?

I'd like to live on an independently chartered colony on the frontier... I could honestly do without the Federation - they want their fingers in as many pies as possible, and the Saints In Paradise deal doesn't work out for me very well (though I find many members of Starfleet far more tolerable than their ruling government. Hm.)

On a Federation ship near the Cardassian border, selling Starfleet secrets to the Obsidian Order! :cardie:

Why, hello...very nice to meet you, sir! What is it you have, that may be of interest to us?

----------------

Now that's my forum "roleplay" character. But let's get a little more serious.

When I look at Trek society...at least, by the 24th century, I do not believe I would want to be human unless I were on some colony where there was more tolerance of varying human belief systems and religions. Ideally, this would be outside of Federation jurisdiction entirely.

But...I think that I would want most to be Cardassian, to be one of those who plays a role in the rebuilding of the Union following the Dominion War. To be there at the (new) beginning, to be part of shaping a nation before the stagnation and the apathy sets in...that would be a high privilege indeed. (I would also imagine myself as an Oralian believer, as seen in the novels.)

That's an inspiring vision and one that I would love to share in. (I would imagine alas, that my alter ego in the Union would have been executed by the Dominion before the war's end:(.)

And Herkimer Jitty? I hope that you take the opportunity to colonise near our borders so that we can offer you the protection of the Cardassian Union.

I would be an Oralian, I think, and hopefully I could get assigned to a diplomatic post in the aftermath of the Dominion War. Cardassian ambassador to Betazed, or some other world in need of seeing a side to Cardassia other than guns and death. I imagine my Oralian beliefs might make acquiring a formal post difficult, but if I can't get the ambassadorial post, I'll be one of his/her aides and go along that way. :)

If I had survived the War and the Decimation I would be a Gul in what's left of the Central Command fleet helping to rebuild our military forces and secure the territories of the Union. Just in case we still need to show the rest of the Galaxy our fangs...:shifty:

Oh yeah, it's pretty much the only border I trust.

The Ferengi would buy my planet out from under me.

The Klingons are patently unstable and trigger-happy.

The Romulans would get suspicious, believing my colony to be a Federation invasion plot. They'd sneak over, blow up my planet's star in the middle of the night and say "Oh, their solar system seems to have spontaneously exploded. What a shame."

I don't think I'm missing anyone else significant...

Personally, I’d hate to be the only non-telepath on a planet full of people capable of reading my mind, but that’s just me.

Aha, but all Cardassians in the Military, Intelligence and Diplomatic orders are highly trained in mental disciplines. If a Vulcan Mind mend has no effect on a Cardassian then Betazoids are no trouble;)

Cardassians have pretty formidable mental abilities, though. Dukat was able to resist a Vulcan mind-meld. Somehow, I don't think a Betazoid would be much trouble.

Edit: Wow, Thor Damar and I were totally on the same wavelength at the same time.

I'd be practicing my preaching skills as a holo-evangelist. I could get rich and buy my own Rolls-Royce warp yacht and have many, many slavish followers.

Scary ain't it;)?

I would like to think that I'd be either a science officer or stationed in engineering on a star ship, due to my interest in Physics (which is essentially discovering the unknown) and travelling.

If I were not one of the millions killed in the "salt the earth" campaign waged on Cardassia by the Dominion at the end of the war, I, too, would want to be part of that rebuilding effort. Of course, that would entail gathering as much incriminating intelligence as I possibly could on anyone still in a position of power and anyone up and coming (and preserving whatever was left behind after the Obsidian Order debacle). People need to be kept in check, lest they get out of hand and try to lord over the entire Union. *cough*Dukat*cough* That would be completely unacceptable, as we would have already seen and suffered firsthand the danger and consequences of letting anyone get too big for his well tailored britches.

I often thought about being cryogenically frozen and reanimated aboard the Enterprise. After totally exploiting the possibilities of the replicators I'd probably spend most, if not all of my time in the holosuite. I'd also like to try to confuse the ship's computer, although I'd probably fail and end up trying to seduce Troi. Hmm, that would probably also result in failure and humiliation prompting me to steal a shuttlecraft and replicator and then blast off into deep space, floating around until I die a horrible death from space cancer and brain parasites. :(

"Often," McBastard? Huh! ;)

I would want sunlight and moonlight and starlight and grass and trees and flowers and fresh air and rain and wind and snow...

And I'd want to be able to garden. And cook.

So I'm thinking for me, a planet's the way to go.

As to which planet, that gets difficult. I wouldn't completely rule out Earth - we have ourselves a lovely planet here, after all - but I'm not sure where I'd go. New Orleans, now...it's got a lot of charm right now, despite its problems, so once all those problems are cleaned up, it would be enchanting. But it gets too hot, that's for sure. Maybe someplace like Wisconsin. I love snow - the only problem is driving on it, and in the 24th century, I won't have to drive.

But getting away from Earth has a certain appeal. Cardassia, from what I understand, is just too dang hot. Vulcan, even more so. Having grown up in the Southern California desert, I know all about hot, and I never ever ever want to be really hot again, if I can avoid it.

Romulus maybe? Assuming they've got their paranoia, xenophobia, and totalitarian-militaristic instincts straightened out? (I don't ask for much, do I?) But it sounds, in the Rihannsu books, like a lovely place.

Ah, now you're speaking my language, cher. I grew up in Louisiana, and I love N. O., even with its problems post Katrina.

As for heat, I love it. Humidity, too. Yeah, I'm a freak, but when you grow up in Bayou country, you just wouldn't have it any other way, yet another reason Cardassia appeals.

Well, good for you - somebody's got to do it. Me, I grew up in "'Dry heat'? I'll show you 'dry heat'" country, and I would definitely like to have it another way. If I ever get homesick, I can just shut my eyes and stick my head in a preheated oven!

I thought Cardassia was largely arid? That's how it's described in some books (in Hollow Men, Garak just can't get over how much water there is on Earth), though perhaps not in canon.

I read somewhere a mention of humidity on Cardassia, but now I have to figure out where I saw that. Eh, I've been in dry heat, too, spent some time in the desert in CA. As long as I stayed hydrated, I did fine. Besides, Cardassian physiology is well adapted to their environment, and in another universe, I'd want to be a :cardie:!

I know EXACTLY how you feel. I'm not from LA, but I'm getting really irritated with the weather this year. It should NOT feel so damn cool in July.

But we had a thread once a long time ago in Misc, and you should be able to find it if you search under "heat tolerance"...and apparently I am already borderline Cardassian, when it comes to what I do and don't feel comfortable with! I THRIVE on heat, and just wither in cold.
