Megan Fox slaps down Michael Bay

That was amusing...Will Smith was a TV star before Bad Boys Michael...I like how he seems to always claim responsibility for others success. I don't blame Megan for making the comments she did, she was barely given anything to do in the movie except have a virtual strip scene outside her boyfriends house in his yard where his parents were a few feet away. She had a robot on steriods hump her leg, and ran around the Eygptian dessert with her boobs half hanging out of her t-shirt. Not really Oscar worthy acting there! I seem to recall Scarlett Johansen also expressing displeasure at Bay for the Island and attempting to overexpose her when she wasn't comfortable with it. Something to do with a billboard of her I believe.

Quite the opposite. Johansson claimed she was willing to go further in terms of showing skin in a love scene, but that Bay held her back. She did have a tumultuous relationship with Bay, though, as many actors and actresses who work with him do. He's a screamer on set.

I think I read an interview once where Bay said he let actors do their thing in quieter moments, but when it comes to action scenes everything has to be done 100% his way. I'm guessing he doesn't really care about the non-action scenes other than that they're required to bridge action scenes. Sort of like George Lucas and his special effects scenes.

I'd call it the Padme Syndrome. "Let's see... I need her to give birth to Luke and Leia and then die so Bail Organa can take Leia... so let's just cut all the other stuff out about her that doesn't service that purpose."

Bay is the more successfull Uwe Boll.. period.

Nobody wants to be called on his shit and Bay is not different. Everybody knows that his movies aren't known for his tender moments, subtle nuances or well crafted stories.. people are there for the Action (and in case of Transformers some Megan Fox tits'n'ass) yet he pretends there's more to his movies.

He apparently has a lso a big ego citing to have "made" people like Will Smith and Nicolas Cage when in reality they were already known actors. About the only thing he really can claim is to have given them career boosts (something Fox doesn't deny).

However Fox has yet to prove she's more than T&A and i hope she is.. nothing is sexier than a nice set of boobs and legs that go together with good acting ability. Wait and see...

Okay got the Scarlet thing confused but I knew that she had some kind of problem with Bay. The audio commentary on Transformers that he does has some interesting insight on the routines he has on a production. He also takes credit for all the military hardware he's able to use in the movies and that he has a solid contact with the Pentagon (which is probably true but he sounds so full of himself when he discusses it).

So Nicholas Cage wasn't a big actor before doing The Rock? Hmm, obviously, having just come off his Ocar win for Leaving Las Vegas, he was totally desperate for work ... And it's not like he'd worked with directors like the Coen Bros, Francis Ford Coppola or Mike Figgis, before going to the godlike auteur that is Mr Blow-things-up.

I'm surprised he didn't say that nobody had heard of Sean Connery before Bay cast him ...

TBH Megan will never have much of an acting career, I doubt her ability to lead films on her own and if she didn't want to be in a movie full of effects I would of told her not to bother being in a movie about GIANT ROBOTS FIGHTING  with Bay as the director...

Lets face it for such an OTT idea Bay is the perfect director

I wouldn't be so sure.. she just didn't have a role that actually required her to really act.

It depends on her choice of future roles.. if she stays with shallow movies she can't play hurt if people don't believe she's capable of acting.

There are quite a great amount of very good actors who have taken on crappy movies.. Jeremy Irons in Dungeons & Dragons, Ben Kingsley in Uwe Boll movies! etc..

So who knows.. she might really be the next Natalie Portman and surprise us all. However i do agree that the chances are not so good.. she also might be the next Jessica Alba ;)

Natalie Portman and Jessica Alba are not really praised for there acting and there success is mild compared to many other better female actors so beng like them might not be best thing for her;)

Correction...Natalie Portman hasn't been priased for her acting in the Star Wars prequels, but most of everything else she has been in she gets crically acclaimed for. It was one of the reasons Lucas probably pursued her for Star Wars.

http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/us-magazine-megan-fox-bay.htmlBut something tells me she'll be down to making sleaze films with T/A to make ends meet within a few years.
Oh, I'll be there. :alienblush:

How many leading actresses are there in Hollywood, really? And how long do their career last? Let's face it: at comparable talent level, it's much harder to be a woman in Hollywood than a man.

I liked the D&D movie. :D

And Bay vs Fox - well, of course she's right, but despite everything else, Bay is extremely successful, and imo Fox should be a little more careful with what she says until she's had even half of his success.
It's not like she's a critically acclaimed theatre actress or anything either...

eta:  I just looked at Michael Bay's wikipedia page and at the moment it looks like this:
the photo that assumingly shows "Michael Bay in 2008" is titled "vaginal bulb syringe.jpg"

Portman was like a child prodigy when it came to acting. Her "maturity" made an impression on people, but now that she's older, she's not seen that way anymore. In a way, she's become more mundane.

We'll see. Sometimes stunners who are initially only hired for their looks reveal they do have serious acting chops.

I can wait.

As for Bay... yeah, great at action, terrible with actors. He needs a co-director to work with who's great the actors but can't shoot an action sequence to save his life.

Any suggestions? :)

I guess she wants to distance herself from the crapiness of the film so she can move onto "bigger and better" things. But something tells me she'll be down to making sleaze films with T/A to make ends meet within a few years.

Still, it's nice to see Bay get some flak for his BS once and a while...

Bigger and better things? That skant probably will end up like Denise Richards.

Natalie Portman is an Oscar nominee and Golden Globe winner who usually gets good reviews in whatever she's in.

Bay's got to get a grip too with the stars that he's "made." Nicholas Cage had been a star for several years (Moonstruck anyone) and was just coming off an Oscar win before being cast in The Rock. Will Smith, as pointed out was a successful rapper and TV star before Bad Boys. Bad Boys wasn't even that big of a hit and then he went on to do Independence Day, which was a monster hit. Ben Affleck was coming off Good Will Hunting, which was a major box office and critical hit and the film that made him and Matt Damon. He even won an Oscar for his screenplay. Even Shia was coming off a surprise hit with Disturbia before Transformers. No doubt they all benefitted from Michael Bay but he didn't create any of those guys.

I don't understand something - did she ever saw one of Bay's movies? It's not like his movies are direct to DVD or something, they are usually big blockbusters which make shitload of money all over the world ... His movies are always about BIG EXPLOSIONS first and the rest is just stuff to pass time between the explosions.

What did she expect, Shakespearean play?

The one thing you could say in Bay's favour is that his movies do feature very good actors. Connery, Cage, Ed Harris (The Rock) John Turturro, Jon Voight (Transformers) for example. I mean look at the cast of Armageddon - Billy Bob Thornton, Steve Buscemi, Michael Clarke Duncan, William Fichtner, Will Patton, Owen Wilson, etc. Way above what you get in your usual action movie.

But I've always put this down to the influence of his producer Jerry Bruckheimer rather than Bay. Even the likes of Days of Thunder featured Robert Duvall and Randy Quaid alongside (God help us) Don Simpson, while Con Air had Cage, John Cusack, John Malkovich, Buscemi and Ving Rhames. Enemy of The State, with Smith, Gene Hackman, Gabriel Byrne, etc, etc. Or look at Pirates of The Caribbean, which was Johnny Depp's first real blockbuster. All Bruckheimer output but no Bay involvement.

I think Megan Fox could act, but before she acts, she has to eat, right? So doing some action popcorn flicks like Transformers is a way to pay the bills. It's a start. I'd say acting (in the loose term of the word) in a Michael Bay film beats working in a diner as a waitress waiting to be "discovered."

But we haven't seen her act yet so it could just be she's there to look pretty and do little else. Give her some roles with acting required and who knows if she'll pull it off. I doubt anyone thought Angelina Jolie could act either when she first started out.

^ That's a good point, actually.

Bruckheimer does all those action 'splosion things like Pirates otC, National Treasure and Confessions of a Shopaholic.

Well, I assume the last one's like that, I could never watch it. Maybe would have if Bay directed it.
