Captain's Chair

Gorn Captain

Commander
Red Shirt
I noticed some flashy Star Trek bridge buttons on ebay and it got me thinking whether it would be possible to build a captain's chair. I know they make a $1700 replica, but in the real world, if I'm gonna have a captain's chair, I would have to build it.

Has anyone done this, or have ideas on how to go about it? Thanks.:techman:

I seem to recall that there was a poster here who did build his own. Maybe check the TrekArt forum?

How hard can it really be?

All you need is a good office style chair or similar (no more than 40 or 50 quids worth should get a good one), some various other types of materials for paneling and computer screens, put it all together and you'd get a good approxmiation for less than 100 or 200 quid.

If I had the money I'd do it myself but I don't and I don't have the building skills either.

Recommend you sign up on ASAP -- http://propreplicas.yuku.com -- there's a whole thread on building an accurate TOS Captain's Chair.

The leather part of the chair is a specific walnut-armed guest chair from the mid-60's called a Madison #2405; this can be reproduced with the information provided there. The rest of the chair is plywood built around it.
