^So wait...
Not only do states have their own laws in the US, towns and villages within can have their own laws too ?
The US legal system must be a nightmare to figure out
It can be at times.
That's why a good lawyer is worth every penny you spend on him/her while the not so good ones aren't worth the effort to pull the gun trigger.
I had the age of consent laws explained to me here awhile ago, much of it revolves around the AGE DIFFERENCE between partners. For example now if I was to shag a 17 year old NYS law sees that as statutory rape because of the age difference. If I wait a year and she is 18, by NYS law she is a full adult and the "age difference" no longer applies and her parents cannot get involved.
This is where a friend of mine got nailed, first it went to village court and the village judge found him guilty of violating village law, then referred the case to the State and he got put away for a long long time.
All joking and stuff aside just go into any sexual relationship in the US eyes wide open and know that "statutory rape" can get you put away and marked a "sexual predator" even if the act was fully consensual between you and your partner.
...and this says nothing of the old-fashioned archaic sodomy and buggery laws still on the books in some areas.
