Opinions on Chakotay & Seven

I read the TrekToday article, and this comment is the one that caught my eye from Jeri, "It's not that Seven of Nine has a thing for Chakotay, but she programs the Holodeck with the crew, to practice her social interaction skills with them. They are the people she knows. It has been programmed in such a way that all the males are receptive to Seven, and it just happens to work out that Chakotay's the one."
Damned with faint praise, I'd say. Chakotay had better hope that Seven dumps him because the Captain has to care more deeply for him than Seven does!

Whereas Beltran says "I always thought that there was a natural sexual tension between Chakotay and Seven of Nine that they never exploited, so it was great fun when we finally got a chance to explore it."
Ummmmmm ..... can't say I ever noticed. Does he perhaps mean "I always wanted a more exciting role, and have thought for a while that this could be achieved by pairing Chakotay with Jeri Ryan who by the way is gorgeous and gets much more screentime than me. I saw the potential when she auditioned and I had to work with her on the scene with Chakotay reminding Seven how to laugh, then I was gutted that this wasn't fulfiled...."
If so I have to say I see his point! I'm not a C/7-er by any stretch of the imagination but I think they should've given the guy a bit more of a chance, and this is one opportunity to do so that they missed after waving it under Beltran's nose.

Because, of course, Seven's feelings can't grow over the months between "Human Error" and "Endgame."

So it's "I programmed the crew to be gagging for me on the holodeck, and because of his natural gagging for me plus my surplus gagging enhancement, the most desperate male won out." vs "By "natural sexual tension" I mean it's obvious that I am projecting my own relatively suppressed sexual tension from underneath my wooden acting, and by "explore" I meanif it's not sausage time for Bob, then it's sausage time for some goof I play on TV so the nerds at the conventins will high five me for tapping that.

Using a handy-dandy stardate converter, "Natural Law" started on/about 30 October, with "Endgame" ended on 22 Dec. So we're talking less than two months. I suppose their attraction could bloom in that period, but, because it's Seven, I'm more than a little skeptical . . .

She wears a catsuit and stole the man Janeway never wanted, so of course there's nothing positive to the character.
I also count Natural Law as the starting point for Chakotay's attraction, because before that there was nothing from his part. But on the other hand, in two months something could have happened, however I doubt that it would have gotten very far / deep during that time. And luckily Golden didn't believe that either and it was bye-bye to C/7 in Homecoming (+ Kirsten throwing a shade at the relationship in Full Circle... tee hee!)
I have nothing against catsuit, but I don't worship Jeri Ryan either. And like already seen in this little poll, one has not to be J/Cer to dislike C/7.

I'd be more inclined to think that Janeway would want to protect her protege than make sure that if she can't have the XO, then no one can.
Anyone curious about who and how well they're going to set Jeri up with an existing cast member on Leverage next season. Shark irritated me, did she get some romance to play in that one? - He`s been on stage in a leading role in San Francisco for a month and he got many very, very good reviews for his acting ("brilliant", "wonderful acting"," he filled the stage with his performance", "he did wonder with his role" and so on...)
- he did the movie "Repo chick " (postproduction)
- he was in "Big love"
I think that`s a lot of work.

As I've said elsewhere, I think Janeway could do better--nor do I believe for a minute that she thought Chakotay was her "one true love." I just enjoy the chemistry that they brought to the screen.
No, my biggest gripe with C/7 is that it is one of the lamest romances ever put on television by professional writers and that it basically destroys both characters. Seven was unique in every way until she turned into Nancy Naive. I hated to see her character simplified in such a common way. And Chakotay . . . well, at least before "Endgame" he was man enough not to beg a woman to keep dating him. He wasn't this needy even when Kellen took off for home in "Unforgettable." That scene in Astrometrics is impossible to watch without wincing.
No, Teya, my dislike for C/7 goes much deeper than the desertion of the seven-year J/C flirtation. It was written purely to exploit the two "sexies" of the show by turning them into stereotypes. They deserved better.

I do think that both Beltran and the character Chakotay had masses more potential than they were allowed to fulfill, if C/7 had been handled well from the moment she first beamed aboard the ship it could've achieved that (ducking from rotten tomatoes thrown by my fellow J/Cers, I'm speaking theoretically here!) and I really can't blame him for being very cross.... seems even more of a slap in the face to laugh at the guy now..... (off to continue chuckling hypocritially at Guy's post...)
That about sums it up for me too. I actually enjoy fanfiction where Janeway ends up with someone other than Chakotay and would have been happy if they had just ended the show with a neutral shipper ending. The C7 romance however was not only poorly conceived but poorly executed and reflected poorly on both characters.

At least with Seven, he could come out and speak plainly, rather than coming up with a trite story to illustrate how he was willing to castrate himself for the captain.

Deeper feelings are harder to talk about. Saying you want to be within trransporter distance for convenient booty calls doesn't take much of an emotional investment.

But, I see nothing in Chakotay's words, expression or demeanor that indicates he thinks of Seven as mere "booty call." How typical, though, that this would be the response. What else would someone who looks like Seven have to offer a man?
BTW, I do understand the appeal of the Angry Warrior Speech. What woman wouldn't want a man who's willing to do absolutely anything for her? Who is willing to give up any semblance of a self to please her?
Well, I wouldn't. I prefer an equal partnership, myself. I could get a puppy at the pound if I wanted a lap dog.

They're on their 3rd date, for frak's sake. They're having fun. They kissed for the first time.
Seems perfectly reasonable to me.
^ Three dates and a kiss are not unreasonable but they don't qualify as a "deep" relationship which is where the shallow part comes in. To go back to the start of this tangent three dates and a kiss doesn't mean you'll have the deeper emotions that you would need an "angry warrior" story to talk about. Speaking plainly would be easier, imo.
