WIP TOS science vessel

This is a quick mock-up of a TOS era Science vessel. The textures are temporary and i'll be building the nacelles specifically for this ship. I'd also like to put in an arboretum with windows in either the lower sphere or engineering section. What do you all think?

Really neat. I like it. This thread reminds me a little of what Starscape was trying to do with the Apex.

Suggestion: try putting a lower "saucer dome" at the bottom of the sphere.

I finished most of the modeling and some of the textures. I still have add windows, interiors, phasers, and impulse engines.

I figured since it's a science and exploration vessel, it needed larger, more advanced sensors

Haven't desided yet, maybe on the back of the shere hull right above the secondary hull. What do you all think?

One thing, though - is it named the Columbia? If so we all know the Columbia's registry number was NCC-621.

Looks like a retro Olympic class. I always thought working back from that might yield a better Daedalus Class than the one we normally see. But I like the look of this as a pre-TOS or TOS science ship as well.

I like your design. My only comments are that the 1st version nacelles without the glowy blue bits, look better (to me). Perhaps, something more subtle would work...

I actually like the grill work on the nacelle caps. They offer that structural element that suggests the technology was not as advanced. And they're not too overbearing.

Also, the blue behind the deflector doesn't do much for me. I'd go with gold or a rusty red.

Just my 2 cents. I really do like it though, and I'm not trying to change your ship. Just offering ideas.

Great design, though to be honest, it looks like a giant eyeball with warp nacelles.

Seriously, though - nice work. It looks like it would fit in well as an early TOS science ship. Have you come up with a crew complement or performance ratings for maximum speed, etc.?
