Actors/Actresses you can't believe still get work.

I love movies, but often perplexed by actors/actresses who continue to get work. To me the greatest example of this is Rufus Sewell.http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001722/ He has no charisma, marginal acting ability and overall not that much to look at. Yet, he continues to be casted in movies and television shows.

Really? I kinda like Rufus.

My vote would go to David Caruso. God Almighty, he MUST have sold his soul to the Devil, because I can't think of one single reason he should be receiving a steady paycheck as an actor.

Sylvester Stallone and Keanu Reeves are also up there. They are one trick ponies, especially Stallone, and really aren't that talented.

And then, we have Hayden Christensen....after seeing "Jumper," I just can't grasp why he was hired in the first place. Dull, annoying, unlikable, and no depth. I thought he was so horrible in the Star Wars films because of the writing. Well, I think it was also the fact that the boy simply can't act.

Josh Hartnett. I guess he's one of them heartthrobs, but Paul Walker can act circles around him. Paul Walker! And no matter what role he's playing, Hartnett gives this expression like he's struggling too hard to put one coherent thought in his head.

Keanu Reeves. Keanu Reeves. Keanu Reeves. Oh, and Keanu Reeves.

Forgot to mention Keanu Reeves.

ps - Keanu Reeves.

Good choices.

Rufus Sewell was awesome in Dark City.
I'll second that. :bolian:

I can't believe Sacha Baron Cohen still gets work. Ali G was forgettable, Borat was one of the more overhyped, boring comedies I've seen in a while, and his new movie doesn't look like it'll be much better. He wasn't horrible in Sweeney Todd, but that's like saying Steven Seagal wasn't that bad in Executive Decision.

To me the greatest example of this is Rufus Sewell.

I've only seen him in Dark City, but he was perfect in that role.

Tom Cruise.

Tom Cruise has a limited range, but it has been used effectively in films like Born on the Fourth of July and Magnolia.

My vote would go to David Caruso. God Almighty, he MUST have sold his soul to the Devil, because I can't think of one single reason he should be receiving a steady paycheck as an actor.

No kidding. How is it that his CSI: Miami is the highest rated show of the franchise? Caruso is not a one trick pony, he's a no-trick one. Utterly talentless, and painful to watch on screen. Was he ever pretty enough to justify his appearance in anything?

Sylvester Stallone and Keanu Reeves are also up there. They are one trick ponies, especially Stallone, and really aren't that talented.

I mostly agree. Reeves has been effective in a few films, like A Scanner Darkly, but mostly he's cast in roles that don't effectively use his spaced out acting style. Stallone is best when playing John Rambo and Rocky Balboa, especially when he treats the material half seriously (as he did in the latest sequels). But outside of those characters, which are ultimately alter egos of himself, he's been unsuited for any role I've seen him in (outside of his non-speaking and very brief role in Woody Allen's Bananas).

I wouldn't rate the writing of Jumper particularly higher than that of the Star Wars prequels. Christensen is good in Shattered Glass and Life as a House, if you'd like to see his acting range used well in good films. But, like most of the actors listed here, I haven't seen him express a wide range, which makes him inappropriate for most of the roles he's been cast in.

Speaking of actors who I can't believe get work, Vin Diesel comes to mind. He seems like a nice man who shares our geek passions, but he has the emotional range of a refrigerator and says his lines with aboslutely no naturalism. He's not even that good in Saving Private Ryan, probably the best film he's made. I'd go and rent his two Riddick films in an instant if he wasn't the star.

Rufus Sewell was awesome in Dark City.

I saw him onstage in Stoppard's Rock n Roll, and he was FANTASTIC. Alive, funny, and playing a character unlike what he normally gets cast.

Perhaps that's the trouble--in tv and film they keep trying to cast him as the leading man, when really, he's more of a character actor.

Pauly Shore

I didn't think Pauly Shore was still getting work. I saw him in Jury Duty and he was terrible. I hear Pauly Shore is Dead is good, but I'm in no rush to see it with him as the star, as well as writer/director.

Quentin Tarantino

I think this is a combination of Tarantino's ego, and the fanboys. His performances have mostly been panned by critics, but he is infamous for dropping writing duties at a moment's notice in order to act in any capacity. I'm glad that he's able to get films like Sukiyaki Western Django attention by appearing in small role, but annoyed that the only reason some people see it is because of him.

Kim Raver. She sucked on Third Watch. Then sucked on 24. Then sucked on The Nine. Then sucked on Lipstick Mafia or whatever that SATC ripoff was.

Oh, and Cameron Diaz too. Heather Graham should have Cameron Diaz's career.

Yeah, I've never jumped aboard the Diaz bandwagon-she does nothing for me. Ugly, blah acting, with an annoyingly whiny voice.

Stallone rocks and shouldnt me in that list. Hes back with a vengence and yes his one trick is action films and boxing films. But so what. John Wayne did mostly westerns and war films and is welll loved by the public.

Heres some real actors that shouldnt get work anymore

Will Ferell
Vince Vaughn

Both of these guys are not funny or very good actors. I only half liked one film from these guys put together. That was ELF and it was only because Bob Newhart was in it.

Come on people try harder. SOme of the responses seem to come from people who dont like the actor. Tom Cruuise has done so excellent work and continues to do so. Dont let scientology or weird interviews get in the way of who you think shouldnt be working.
