Sequel/Transformers 2: we're in trouble

If that's Orci and Kurtzman's idea of a big blockbuster sequel....

We're in huge trouble.

Transfomers, Revenge of the Fallen. Worst 'big' film this past decade. Awful garbage. Boring, over-long, a giant mess, horrible editing, pathetic acting and script and terrible pacing. That's two and a half hours of my life I'd like back.

Trek 2 could be in trouble. Hopefully it's mostly Bay's fault.

I wish I still lived in Britain. I'll have to wait until next Wednesday to see how O&K struts their stuff. Although without knowing how RotF is, I would assume having Bay direct and having worse actors than in ST is a big reason why it isn't good.

I think I will wait at least a year before I start tearing my hair out worrying about the sequel.

My hairs still needs to grow back from the weeks preceding Trek XI, for one thing :techman:

Also, Trek was better than Transformers, so that is some comfort as well :)

Didn't we hear this sort of stuff before Trek XI became a hit? Umm lets wait till they write the follow up to worry about it.

Also a director is not an incidental part of making a film I would say that's the important factor between Transformers and Star Trek - and I liked Transformers as well, though it is very Micheal Bay.

Given how disappointed I was with their writing in Star Trek, I'm pretty darn wary about giving these guys the chance to write the sequel.

Depends. What did you think of the original Transformers?

We only have something to worry about if you thought it was as good as Star Trek, otherwise I think we can trust Orci and Kurtzmann to do another good job.

I thought the first Transformers was great. It felt like an actual film, rather than this mess.

As an aside, 1 comic relief character, great. 2, sure...

But FIVE??

Cringeworthy film.

Plus it's not just the two of them, it's the input of the director, you've got Lindelof....relax, its going to be fine.

I've said it before and i'll say it again. A franchise cannot be built on explosions and shaky cameras.

Sure the first film might sell. Transformers is a popular brand just like Trek is a popular brand. A lot of people will check the movie out because it's a novelty.

Then you get to the second Transformer film. It looks to be the same old explosions and car chases featured in the first film. Seen that already. The novelty has worn off.

The same thing could happen to Trek 2 if the writers cannot come up with something more original than an "evil alien who wants to destroy the Earth" storyline complete with explosions and shaky cameras.

You keep saying that, but it has no relevance to Star Trek. You have no standing whether by experience or any demonstrated insight from which to expound upon what can and cannot be done in this regard anyway. This is no more persuasive than your nonsensical failed attempt the other day to claim that the current Trek movie is not a success.

In two years, the naysayers will be making up excuses for the success of the Trek sequel and predicting that the third one will be a failure. :guffaw:

And this surprised you?!?

The first "T" movie was one of the worst films I have seen in a long time. Anybody that expects the sequel to be of any merit needs to have their head read.

Yes. Weeks or months before ST09 was released, I believe.

Most who didn't have any fears for Trek said the Transformers are really just cartoonish toys and cartoonish characters, and it's probably hard to write mature and believable dialog in that context.

Frankly, I thought Orci and Kurtzman had a pretty darn good ear for writing for the Trek characters. Writing for Trek is probably more in their wheelhouse.

I provided insight. Transformers 2. as usual you choose to ignore what you cannot counter.

Furthurmore, Trek was doing fine without the explosions and mindless action. TNG was the most successful of the Trek series. It was successful because it didn't rely on all that shit.

Then suddenly toward the late 90s some suit decided they wanted to turn Trek into mainstream entertainment. How do you do that? I know you dumb it down. Add explosions and fist fights. That's the ticket, maybe that will draw in the pro wrestling crowd.

The result was Nemesis: Flop!
Enterprise: Flop!

Star Trek 2009: Minor hit, but a novelty that has no legs.

 You've got to give M'Sharak time to sit down and have a cup of tea before starting the new forum!
I'll even make it for him. I was just curious, for example, how long this forum was established before the movie debuted. It doesn't seem like they really have anything to talk about yet.
