Sequel/Transformers 2: we're in trouble

Didn't we hear this sort of stuff before Trek XI became a hit? Umm lets wait till they write the follow up to worry about it.

Sharr

Yes. Weeks or months before ST09 was released, I believe.

Yep. They were wrong then. They're wrong now.

Star Trek 2009: Minor hit, but a novelty that has no legs.

Best legs of any film released this year. Two years from now, you'll be making more excuses just like these.

Enjoy your

I think I will wait at least a year before I start tearing my hair out worrying about the sequel.

My hairs still needs to grow back from the weeks preceding Trek XI, for one thing :techman:

Also, Trek was better than Transformers, so that is some comfort as well :)

Star Trek was the most genuinely fun Trek film, and I enjoyed it a lot... but I enjoyed Transformers much more, and I expect that I'll enjoy Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen much more as well.

 You've got to give M'Sharak time to sit down and have a cup of tea before starting the new forum!
I'll even make it for him. I was just curious, for example, how long this forum was established before the movie debuted. It doesn't seem like they really have anything to talk about yet.

still like the idea of keeping the forum but just rebrand it.

for one thing we will have the dvd's and whatever extra's there are and by then possibly more tidbits about the next movie.

Oh, I see; yes. Pretty good idea.

I am happy for you ;)

Frankly, I thought Orci and Kurtzman had a pretty darn good ear for writing for the Trek characters. Writing for Trek is probably more in their wheelhouse.

- Transwarp Beaming
:brickwall:

- Scotty having womanizer thoughts towards the Enterprise.
:(

- Kirk ordering all weapons to be fired on Nero's ship even though
A. It can't fight back.
B. It was already doomed!
:shifty:

- Spock putting aside logic for the wrong reasons.

- Uhura once again being put into a useless position on the ship.

- Centurion Slugs.
:sigh:

- Uhura being the only female character.
:scream::scream::scream:

Clearly no writer in this universe could do a better job than these two dopes with characters they obviously know everything about.

Oh, homages to the original series is not my idea of having a 'good ear' for the story or it's characters. It's imitation.

Haven't seen T2 but imo it has nothing to say about the Star Trek sequel.

Because Michael Bay will not be involved in XII. That's where it's at when it comes to Transformers. He is the biggest influence.

One that has 95% reviewers demanding a sequel ASAP

I think a lot of people over generalize Rotten Tomatoes as the true source of how to tell if a movie is good or not. I for one found that a majority of the reviews for Star Trek have been simple "meh, but ok" rather than "A+ Perfect!". Most of them accepted it as a run-of-the-mill summer action film that just 'homages' Star Trek rather than actually trying to be Star Trek.

And you cannot possibly convince me or any good reviewer that Star Trek has all the qualities, technique and talent that puts it up in the ranks of "UP".

Each of us gets to watch movies that we like. We both win.

Yep. And I'm not knocking Transformers by any means. I thought I definitely got my $10 worth of entertainment out of that movie. And I watched the tv show as a kid, so that added another layer of fun. I'm sure I'll see the sequel :techman:

What I don't understand is how one could day the t1 was any good...

I saw it as part of free in-flight entertainment when it was released and it was a pile of [edit] rubbish [/edit].

And this is coming from some-one who at the time thought the cheapo Japanese early morning transformer Toons were half-way decent.

Transformers may make money, but its not because its a decent film by any of the usual markers.

Untrue.

Again, not true as many good reviewers do think the movie is fine.

Pu-leeze. Maybe someone can channel Gene Coon. Wait. Maybe not, he did write "Spock's Brain". So, go straight to The Big Bird, and just hope you don't get something like "Spectre of the Gun", which also required Gene Coon's help to write.

Homages to the original series were actually a quite clever way of reminding us these were the same people in basically the same world, even if it was a different timeline.

I'll grant you I didn't like the cavalier attitude taken towards destroying Nero, but there you go. They did it. I didn't like it. But they did it. Of course, Spock was one fucked-up dude in this movie. Keeping that in mind, some of his behavior may make some sense.

As far as the other beefs go, if Centurian Slugs bothers you, then that says it all, really.

If that's Orci and Kurtzman's idea of a big blockbuster sequel....

We're in huge trouble.

Transfomers, Revenge of the Fallen. Worst 'big' film this past decade. Awful garbage. Boring, over-long, a giant mess, horrible editing, pathetic acting and script and terrible pacing. That's two and a half hours of my life I'd like back.

Trek 2 could be in trouble. Hopefully it's mostly Bay's fault.

whoa missy, calm down lol. no need for "the sky is falling" just yet. it's just following the same trend as the first movie. not like the first one was good. because it made enough money, they decided to give the audience the same thing. besides, it can't be that bad. it's not like it's x3-epic-bad. still, it will make enough money to make a third. what will you get for the third? same thing. :)

The first Transformers sucked donkey shit too but i still liked Star Trek, so i dont think this is any indication of anything.

the cavalier attitude taken towards destroying Nero

Really no more "caviler" then destroying Chang... in point of fact in this case Kirk even offered an olive branch for what it was worth and by that point hardly required. :vulcan:

I don't see what bearing this has on ST 09? No one cares who wrote it. ST is bound to hold steady.

RAMA

I think a lot of people over generalize Rotten Tomatoes as the true source of how to tell if a movie is good or not.

I think a lot more people incorrectly assume that any source other than *themselves* can tell them if a movie is good or not.

Like I'm suddenly gonna think "Oh, shit, people hated Transformers, now I have to hate it too".
