Darkness; my old friend.

I'm up to 11 viewings of XI. (How symmetrical of me.)

So far, the audiences I've seen it with have been great. Solid, middle America types, geeks and normal folks.

These past couple weeks I've noticed lots people seem to have seen it at least once, although they may be bringing friends or family along who are newbies.

The folks have been all ages, literally from teens to 70s, lotsa middle aged TOS fans, twenty somethings, moms and dads bringing kids and grandkids. In fact, one of the best expereinces I had was the couple who brought their 7 year old grandson to the (I kid you not) first midnight showing. They doubted whether he could stay awake through the whole movie but he had begged to come so they brought him along. He was enthralled throughout the movie. When we were leaving the IMAX I asked him if he liked it and he responded XI "was the best movie ever". His grandmother asked him what the main theme of the movie was (she was a retired school teacher) and he replied "friendship." That made my whole week.

But the vibe has been very friendly, happy, involved...and courteous...almost every time, including the first night. I hate bad theater manners.

Interestingly, at the IMAX I go to most frequently, the manager or usher makes a pre-show announcement that anyone using a cell phone during the presentation will have the cell phone confiscated and be asked to leave. Hasn't happened yet. Maybe it's because people spending $12 for a movie are committed to maximizing the experience.

really?

how old were they?

were these the same kids who laughed at the Mulder-Scully kiss in FTF?

As I had said in an earlier thread, I have now seen TREK XI for the tenth time. Twice on IMAX, eight times traditional.

One thing I have noticed, each time, is that, for the most part, the crowds were pretty well behaved. I have been to movies in recent years (a showing of DARK KNIGHT, and one of IRONMAN) where the crowds were just rude. People drinking up and letting their bottles cascade down the theatre...or, HOLY CHRIST, some lady changing her kids diaper..IN THE THEATRE..at fricking 1130pm...come on lady!!!

People talking on their cellphone, or talking at the screen (as if Batman can hear them) gets to be annoying too.

But I am not sure if its because TREK fans are well mannered (ahem!..right) but I was impressed with humanity while watching TREK XI.

Now....Transformers 2? I don't know. But I have do admit, when they show the scene of MEGAN FOX on the bike? If you hear somone going "oh....YEAH!!"...its me.

So how did some of you find the TREK XI audiences? Were they well behaved or not?

Where I live, all those people would have been kicked out of the theatre (or at least told to shut the hell up by staff)

I am not even sure what the ushers are really doing. I was at a movie recently where one of them came in, walked right past me. The dude in front of me was texting, which anyone can see because of the light on the screen of the phone. Usher had to have seen it on his way back down the aisle, and just walked past the texting idiot.

And I did read sometime back that some woman was threatening to take a theatre to court because they told her to turn her cellphone off and she felt telling her to do so was infringing on her 'civil rights' and her first admendment rights as well. Not sure what ever happened to that case, but I suspect, she probably settled out of court. (Probably for a free tub of popcorn each time she came back)

On my most recent trip to TREK XI? I actually sat in the very back row, and there were at least 60 people there, and I was, well, just observing. No one was talking..no one texted...no one cellphoned...just nice innocent people enjoying the Star Trek movie. I was happy with humanity and so I just thought to my self "i love humanity".

The only bad mark? the dude in front of me gassed. He even said excuse me when he let it go. Luckily, since there were only 60 people in there, I shifted down the aisle...WAY..down the aisle.
