Tuesday (6/16) Box Office - Trek #7 - $0.7 million

This is the first time since STFC I could keep a long watch on the box office, and it was the most fun!

I actually look forward to his daily threads. but either way is fine by me. whatever the board likes...

I prefer the daily threads. I suppose if it was kept in one thread it wouldn't be hard to find it, but I have just liked the day headlined and then the numbers provided. It has been really accessable and fun to watch the numbers rise.

Star Trek continues to be on IMAX in LA area until Monday, on Tuesday it will be replaced with an advance screening of Transformers. I may go see it a second time before it loses the IMAX theater.

Transformers got a lukewarm review from The Hollywood Reporter. It seems more of the same and a long movie (147 minutes). I'll pass on it and wait until it shows up on HBO.

You and 2 other people... the thing will do massive bank...

Make that three.

Endured the first one - absolute shit(although I didn't pay for it - let's just say it came to me in a large downpour of rain ;) ). Have ZERO intention of paying for or of seeing the next pixel crap fest.

Meh. Stick a 30 foot Megan Fox in short shorts and I can watch it for 5 hours before a pee-break.

Yeah, I like to know how many minutes (out of that 147) is Megan Fox in the movie. I get bored by killer robots, not so much with MF.

And it looks like pretty much all IMAX showings of Trek will end on Monday.
Ours added an extra Trek show (2 evening shows) starting on Friday, going through Monday. Tuesday they have one Trek evening show, with a Transformers midnight showing. Then it's Transformers after that.

What a Trek-friendly venue...

Looks like I'll spend part of Father's Day at a matinee just in case my IMAX fails to get the film...

You're a good dad. I wonder how long the movie will stay at regular theaters.

I think Trek is still on track to pass $250 million at the end of its run. Generally, summer movies have runs of 12-18 weeks and they make something like 95% of their total within the first 8 weeks.

The real question is how good its overseas total is going to be.

If it does it will be on the very last day of release. I think its going to be a slow road after this weekend, but it should be over $240 mill by monday. I'm wondering if maybe July 4th will bolster sales any.

You mean DVD sales?

:D

Seriously... I would regard it as a minor miracle (forgive me Lord) if Star Trek were still in the theaters, let alone in any way viable at that point.

Oh it will definitely still be in theaters. We're just talking about three weekends from now. It won't shed that many screening that fast, Transformers or no.

It's still pulling in similar numbers to what Iron Man did for the same calendar day last year (although Iron Man was a week further into its release), and Iron Man did about $1.5M for the 3-day weekend last year. Iron Man didn't close until October 2 and made another $7M after the Independence Day weekend, so I figure Star Trek will be playing until Labor Day at least. And it will hit $250M.

As my wife and kid can attest, I'd rather be wrong and them be right; same in this case... :)
