The Fall of the Sheliak...or I surrender to the Abomination.

SheliakBob

Commander
Red Shirt
argh.
Fine. I'm sick to bloody death of my local friends battering me with the "But how can you know if you haven't even SEEN the movie yet?" card in arguments that THEY start. I can't spend any time with half my circle of friends without that coming up. AGAIN. Hell, my circle of friends is half the size it used to be, largely due to the same factors.
So. Fuggit. I'll drink your damn Kool-aid. Happy?

Hell. I figure the See it or Not See it battle is over. Huge Boxoffice. My handful of dollars won't make any difference one way or another. And I'll be buying back a chunk of the Moral High Ground next time the argument gets dumped on my head. I am ashamed that my ideological purity will be tainted. I feel like I'm letting my fellow Canonistas down. Sorry guys. I'm just weaker than i thought I would be. *hangs head*

I feel like one of those Japanese hold-outs, stumbling out of the jungle decades after The Bombing, muttering, "What do you mean the war's been over for years?"

In all fairness, if I'm going to watch The Abomination, I am going to look for whatever I can find that I LIKE. And, in the interest of honesty and forthlyrightfulness-i-ness, I will confess same right here. Tomorrow.

It's not like I expect anyone to really care. I just figure that after waging long, strident post-war here, I owe it to those I've argued with to have their fair chance for "I told you so's" and other affirmations.

So, in about two hours, I drive this battered ol' Constellation right down the throat of that Abomination. Anti-protons? I HATE anti-protons. This is going to hurt...

Go into it with an open mind, and remember not to take it too seriously. It's a friggin' movie.

Joe, filmy

Since you used the word "abomination" no less than three times in your post, it seems obvious that you've already decided you're going to hate the movie whether you see it or not. So if that's the case, why waste your ten bucks?

Shhh... anything to push the total to 250... :)

Because he's following the valid argument that you can't complain about a movie you haven't seen. It might seem odd to spend money on a movie you think you're going to hate, but the point has merit.

He does say he is going to try to find things he likes, and I hope he does.

This isn't necessarily true...I was pretty sure I wasn't going to like this movie going in...just as I don't like most of the blockbusters that come out of Crapwood -- but I liked this more than I had anticipated...so even going in with a bad tude or predisposed notions doesn't mean you'll hate it.

OP just know that it's not your fathers Trek and it can never be your fathers Trek so therefore it can't possibly live up to the sheer magnitutude of your fathers Trek...it can't and it's not fair to expect it to...because there is only one real first and often the first is the best...and yes that is the case here too. :D

A fair enough question. There is nothing in the film that can possibly change the fact that it recasts the Original Crew, which I am absolutely opposed to. And there's no getting around the reboot nature of the film. So, Abomination it will stay, no matter what it's entertainment qualities may be.
But I AM going to give it a fair chance, as an SF movie, if not really "Trek as I know it". If I'm spending money, then by God I'm going to have a good time. No matter how many brain cells have to die in the effort.

So, it will stay an abomination, your brain cells will die, and yet you ARE going to give it a fair chance.

Well, as long as you plunk your money down and contribute to the box office, enjoy yourself.

I'll skip the review though, since it will contain no surprises anyway...

So instead of watching the movie just so he can complain, why not just stop complaining? Not only better for the forum, but it'll be good for his own blood pressure as well.
